Has Toyota come clean on electrical glitches? (Toyota technician appeared with his computer )

Mary Byers, Asheville • May 4, 2010

In January 2008, I purchased a new Toyota Prius. In September 2008, as I made a short right turn into my son's driveway, the car sped out of control, and the back wheels caught on a low brick wall, or it would have driven off a 24-foot high deck. My dealer was called, and they informed me they did not do body work. At a local garage they repaired the ripped-up front end. While at the garage, a Toyota technician appeared with his computer to check the car. He would not let my mechanic observe what he was doing. Toyota later informed me there was nothing wrong with the car. Now 20 months after the accident, I have received a safety recall notice from Toyota concerning floor mats. The driver-side floor mats are on hooks, and it is impossible for the floor mats to interfere with the accelerator.

I am convinced there is some “glitch” in the electronics and Toyota is still not being honest with the public.

1. I agree
there is a "low charge" state where the current flows through the circuits unpredictably...

2. What Must Toyota Do to Regain Our Trust?
Edited on Tue May-04-10 07:48 AM by Cool12
The Toyota Motor Corporation is the largest car manufacturer in the world, but they didn't get there by building cars of an inferior quality. Toyotas have long been considered the benchmark by which all other makes are judged, but in recent months that advantage has largely disappeared.

Come clean.
Shake up.
Get real.

If Toyota continues to be defensive, even combative, people will see through it and look elsewhere for their new cars. Volkswagen and a resurgent General Motors are closing back in while Ford, Honda and Hyundai are demonstrating that their vehicles are certainly worth a look.

3. File this one with the story about the 100mpg carburetor.
Trust me, no dealer technician or zone rep is just going to show up at an independent shop and start working on a customer's vehicle while refusing to allow the shop's proprietor to see what they are doing.

No dealer is going to respond to a call like that with "we don't do body work". All dealers do bodywork or have a shop they contract with--it's part of their franchise. And a car that has run up on a wall needs exhaust and suspension and likely drivetrain repairs. No dealer service department is going to turn that down.

This story is just not plausible.
