George Will Is A Lying Idiot |
|
http://videocafe.crooksandliars.com/scarce/george-will-wind-farms-oil-spills (click for video) GEORGE WILL: Right. And -- and, by the way, wind farms kill a lot more birds daily than are probably going to be killed in this oil spill.

are the Edward Scissorhands of clean energy technology.
You are doomed, you airborne angels! Doomed!

Will is smart enough not to spew the distortions he spews, but he does it anyway.

Will jumped right on Bill Maher about his inaccurate Brazil comment, but no one challenged Will's dead bird claim.

|
Right before Three Mile Island, maybe three days before, He came out with a column explaining how safe the nuclear power industry was.

I figure Will will quit in protest since he will no longer have anything to say.

7. I've seen video of those wind farms at work. |
|
It looked to me like the blades were spinning very very slowly. How can such a slo mo spin kill a bird? (A bird with a brain and eyes, that is.) Or do they spin at varying rates of speed? And if they do spin very fast at times...wouldn't any bird worth its survival salt give such a contraption a wide berth? Don't they (the contraptions) make a whirring noise?

11. Well, it might kill some of the Republican birds. They're much slower |
|
than Democratic birds, and far less evolved.

12. They don't spin faster. The have components to regulate the slow speed |
|
and shut it down in really high winds. They do kill birds at first but, unlike Repubs, they learn and avoid the danger. Same thing happened with the first skyscrapers.

www.awea.org/faq/sagrillo/swbirds.html
www.treehugger.com/files/2006/04/common_misconce.php
These are the first two things that came up in a google search.
They both maintain that wind farm damage to the bird population is infinitesimal compared to other dangers to birds, like flying themselves, unaided, into buildings and windows, etc.

People who call wind turbines "bird blenders" have never seen how slowly they actually spin, even in a high wind (and in TOO high a wind, they're shut down). They're not like box fans!

10. Most of what Will does on This Week is prepared remarks. |
|
This past Sunday he was out numbered and challenged. He's not used to arguing a point, he's used to a moderator setting him up or steering the discussion and cuing him at convenient moments. I'm not surprised under last Sunday's circumstances he got flustered and came up with that wind farm nonsense.
