WOOT!! Obama chose Kalamazoo Central High School......
President Barack Obama will speak at Kalamazoo Central's commencement ceremony

KALAMAZOO — President Barack Obama will be the graduation speaker for Kalamazoo Central High School this June, the White House announced today.

Central was declared the national winner of the Race To The Top High School Commencement Challenge. More than 1,000 schools competed to have Obama as their commencement speaker.

The other two finalists were Clark Montessori Junior High and High School, a magnet school in Cincinnati, and the Denver School of Science and Technology, a charter school in Denver. Central was the only regular, urban high school among the finalists.

Here's the announcement....

1. If would mean a lot more to Michigan if the President kept his promise on NAFTA.
Any chance of that?

9. How's your standard of living?
NAFTA and the rest of "free trade" stuff has worked to destroy Michigan's economy.

Of course, "free trade" has been great for Wall Street.

12. I'm just glad I don't work near there.

I'd be calling in sick. You probably won't be able to drive anywhere near it for a couple hours.

I wonder how they're going to manage that? There a major traffic artery about two spits away from Wings, and lots of hotels and such right there. Who will pay for the security? It's not like Kzoo has the money to spare...

14. Kalamazoo has the Kalamazoo Promise
That, I think, is what put it over the top.

The Kalamazoo Promise guarantees any student who goes through the Kalamazoo school system and maintains a specific GPA or above a four-year education at any in-state college or university. It is a model we should adopt nationwide, but we don' have the money for it.

The military does have the money for it, though. Note I exclude our military from the "we". They military- or more specifically the military's funding- is the "they" in that equation.

Slash the funding for the DoD (I would say by at least 50%), spend it on education, and watch the dough rise once again.
