8. Actually, in my fantasies of winning myself...
...I'd be paying 31% in federal taxes, so I'd devote an additional 8% to funding scholarships. I've always advocated a top tax rate around 39%, so I'd be compelled to put my money where my mouth is.

Tell ya what, Commonist... if I win, I'll spot you ten grand. Will you do the same for me? :)

11. BP is still responsible for the cost of the cleanup...

and that's gonna be a huge number.

The $75 million is the cap on their liability to those with civil claims against them. Above the $75 million, those claims will go against a pool that all the oil companies have paid into. Edit: paid into through an $0.08 per barrel tax.
