I'm looking for a candidate whose platform is "Get off your lazy asses and ride bikes" |
|
I'm registered to vote in NC.
Does anyone know if any of the folks on today's primary ballot share my views?
Thanks in advance for your help!

1. Why don't I move to NC and run for something. |
|
Then there will be a candidate who shares your views.

8. We've got a guv in CO with constant bike injuries |
|
...No spring chicken, Ritter. But I give him credit for riding his bike in front of a lot of people.
I agree with you, it would be an improvement over the "Get off my lawn" candidates.

11. I'd rather have someone who wasn't such a klutz |
|
Seems like a bad role model.
Gives folks the impression that cycling is dangerous.

The best locations for growing fruit are often also desirable locations for vacation homes and such, so there are a lot of conflicts between the growers and the yuppie invaders. Harvest season can be frantic, with heavily loaded trucks going back and forth from dawn 'til dusk on country roads moving produce from field to processor on narrow and winding country roads. Almost everyone in farm country has tangled with the bikers, who are on vacation and out for a spin on the roads and with the notion that it is the farm trucks that are the intruders. One farmer told me once "it would be illegal for me to assign a person to riding a bike down one of these roads during harvest season as a job, because it would be too dangerous." Adding insult to injury, farm country is very poor and the interlopers often have the fanciest imported Italian bikes and other expensive equipment of various kinds.
A few years back a grower here ran for the state house. His entire platform and the only thing he campaigned on was "we gotta do something about the bikes" - and he won.
