wondering why one of my brothers has gone insane
Just heard from my sister today that he has a stash of ammo thats huge, lots and lots of guns, (all legal), and is buying gold and more gold. Has huge agoraphobia, wont leave town, stays home all the time, and talks about 'Armegeddon'

his best friends are cops he knows, and he wont have anything to do with the rest of the family. nothing.

oh, and he watches only Faux news.

or, as my sister says 'he thinks the John Birch society is too far left'.

You know, this really bothers me. I didnt think he would go this far.

are they really being brainwashed this much? I mean, he is not a dumb person, per se. We were raised in the same family by the same parents.

I guess I feel a bit sad that he has gone down this road. But I think the SWILL on Fox news adds to mental illness in my brother's case.

and I just feel so sad about it.

10. Yes he does. I think we both speak from experience. It has little to do with brainwashing-
and I find it disconcerting for someone to phrase their post as if it were.

5. Yes they are. I had a 'discussion' with mom
She is recently remarried and the guy is a real conservative type.. does not really talk about fox noise, but my mom seems to be being brainwashed. This is a woman who put her self through college after she and dad divorced oh 30mumble years ago. I flat out asked where she was getting such ideas and that maybe she should start fact checking what bellow and beckerhead say. Then on about Obama. I said look hes not my favorite person, but can you imagine McCain/Palin? I finally got through when I said if you look the real problems are with by here pay here politics, and the big money is in big corps..and they hire the most lobbyists who bribe both sides of the aisle and call them campaign donations.

8. Sure about that "not dumb" thing? Because it would explain a lot.
John Birchers are usually pretty dumb.

12. Your sister needs to leave. Now.
When these squirrels snap, the wife and kids get it first. While she might be his only link to reality, it's a link he's quickly rejecting.

I have a strong feeling his friends, the local cops, are more keeping an eye on him than befriending him.

Enough to make anyone paranoid ...

15. Fear and frustration (which can lead to anger)
play a role in many cases, I think, especially the fear and frustration that stem from failed and unrealistic expectations -- and from a worldview that's irrational, that doesn't work, that's based on fantasy, egotism and willful blindness and ignorance.

And I think that on some other-than-conscious level, many people have some recognition of unpleasant realities (like them being essentially powerless) that they just can't deal with, which results in them trying to suppress big parts of themselves (parts that work!) and of the greater reality: a recipe for unhappiness, dysfunction, madness.

Of course, there are also various metabolic issues, and these shouldn't be ignored or downplayed. And some medications can make life more bearable, although maybe he's not open to it.

It's tough when it's someone close to you; but it's just another thing you can't let pull you down.

...

Go, Labour!

In unity, strength.

17. Ammo "stashes" and "lots of guns" isn't really all that uncommon or worrisome.
The rest is a bit of another story all together.
