Radical Fringe toons - where are they?
Between work and adjusting to a new routine, plus maintaining a couple of websites during the wee hours of the morning, and the regular stuff that needs to be done around the home - I just haven't had the time to sit down and draw.

I will probably be cutting back time devoted to a couple of websites, and switching to a weekly toon instead of a daily one,(more if time and ideas are available.

New job is going well, they have moved me from just doing detailing and revisions to doing arrangements. A few of my co-workers were a bit surprised at the "move" as I've only been there 4 weeks and they mentioned it was a few months before they were given 'arrangements' to draw. So I guess I'm doing really well, although I feel I've been thrown into the deep end of the pool and can only tread water.

This is a whole new type of drafting for me. Much different from drawing for a manufacturer. Plus with this company you are given pieces or sections of the project, but only have a vague idea of what the whole thing looks like and have to hunt around on many many other drawings and specifications to find bits of information. To add the excitement - each "customer" has different requirements for how they want the drawings formated. In otherwords, the standard "template" varies from job to job.

Think of it as several jig-saw puzzles where you have a generic "title" of the puzzles, but no picture and not all the pieces are in the same box. AHHHHHH!!!

Fortunately, the people at work are very patient, willing to help me muddle through. Apparantly, this structural steel drafting is very specialized and not many drafters come into the company with years of experience and knowledge - so the company is prepared for a long learning curve.

I hope to be back on track with at least a weekly toon real soon

2. It's good to know you are doing well and liking your new job, no mention of car so that aspect
must be going OK. I kinda' figured the reasons stated were why the 'toons have been few and far between. Is the drawings in flat plane or are you drawing in 3d. I done some drawing for a company who only wanted a new drawing for each plane rather that me draw it in real time so as to have any view they wanted any time they wanted it, they never did grasped the 3d thingy and only used autocad for flat drawings, what a waste. Anyways we'll be waiting for the 'toons to start again. After all the dick with the Queen should give some juicey material to work with.;-)

3. 2d only
mainly because the customers get the cad files along with hard copies of drawings... it's about the only thing that can be called a 'standard'. Plus any part drawings that will be manufactured using a CAM system has to be in 2-d.

One job I had back in MA - we started to do everything in 3-d because in the long run it was faster to produce part drawings with the different ortho views and pictorials of finished products for the catalog/customer literature etc.

Once I get the inital drawing done of say the top view, the bottom view is a mirror image with slight changes - so it's save a file under a different name and make the changes, add the section/detail views for that particular side.

It's getting the inital drawing done correctly that is the hard part.

Yes, new car is running well.

4. I am a person who makes all types of things from wood stoves to
yard machines to you name it and I find drawing in 3d sure saves me lots of time and effort. I can see if there is any interference or basically if the thing is going to work when I finish with it long before I even start to build it. That was and still remains my main reasons for spending the time it took to learn the program, self taught btw, in the first place years ago. Back in my ole 286 and acad10 days blocks were my bestest friend but with the new computers and the newer versions of acad, that isn't so important anymore.
