A message from my friend Jenny Brunner to her friends on DU |
|
Hi Botany,
You have been a wonderful supporter. I'm working on an email to supporters now. Here are a couple of lines for you to post:
Our campaign broadened the progressive base in Ohio. We fought to make people matter more than money. We were outflanked in money, endorsements and establishment pushback, but with the support of a broad and diverse group of activists who helped us get our message to other Ohioans, we pulled off a campaign that has amazed many. We were outspent 4 to 1 overall and on broadcast media 100% to 0. We can take what we learned and help new candidates of all races, nationalities, gender, orientation and age become part of our government, so that our government looks and thinks more like us.
Thanks for your friendship, great ideas and support, Botany.
Jennifer

5. They all but patted her on the head and told her to "know her place" |
|
What she did in Ohio is for the history books. Open elections, paper ballots, early voting, testing of voting machines, death threats about an ACORN problem that was not there, testing on how to make elections better, testing on how to make Ohio better, women's rights, gay rights, and she would answer unscripted questions for 1 hour for all comers.

6. Yes, I remember when she fought so hard against the |
|
Republican attempt to stop citizens from voting, the very same tactic they had used when Blackwell was SOS. This time they had to contend with her and she took them to court and won. Interestingly with the same panel of judges who had agreed with Blackwell and ruled against the people at that time.
She DID receive death threats and airc, her office was vandalized. Rightwingers don't like fair elections. I am sorry she didn't win, but this is likely to happen elsewhere also since the party seems to prefer Blue Dogs and DLCers like Jane Harman over real progressives.

7. Jenny really knows the law |
|
She would never say it publicly but she all but dared people and groups to take her to court because unlike Bush v Gore she had so much case law on her side any judge that ruled against her would have to show "standing" and they know they would be smacked down.
What Fisher did in his last minute smear campaign has left me w/ a really bad taste in my mouth.

15. I wondered why the panel who had sided with Blackwell |
|
on almost the exact same issue, sided with her.
I didn't know that Fisher had smeared her. That's disturbing and it doesn't bode well for the other real progressives challenging the DLCers. More and more I wonder about this party.

9. I do too, and if she runs for a state office, I will vote for her again. |

Very gladly. I won't forget what she did for Ohio. I'm sure that's cold comfort now, but I hope she takes heart; after all, Obama got his ass kicked when he first tried to run for Congress, but it didn't stop him.

I was hoping she would win. I don't know too much about her except that she tried to reform the vote counting. But people I trust on DU were all for her, so I was too. Next time.
And what a great attitude she showed here: that we will learn from this and use it to help others so that our government, truly, one day, really represents the people of America.

12. I Proudly Voted For Mrs. Brunner Yesterday! I Have Met Her & Interviewed Her On Several Occasions |
|
Here in rural Darke County, Ohio where she was alot during her campaign for SOS. I got the very unique opportunity to actually sit down and interview her and got her opinion on a wide range of subjects including how to make Ohio's elections safer and my concerns of election fraud in the 2004 Presidential Election in Ohio.
She is a very smart, wonderful woman who is articulate in every way. I salute Mrs. Brunner on her campaign and I worked my ass off for her campaign here in Darke County making phone calls and knocking on the doors of mostly Republican households within the city.
Although I too am very disappointed with the outcome of the results to an election that from the very start had the decks stacked against our wonderful SOS, I accept the results and applaud Mrs. Brunner's courage in moving on in the best interest of the State and of the Party.
While I understand she is the current SOS and probably cannot go out and stump and actually campaign for Lt. Governor Fisher, I encourage her to support and formally endorse Mr. Fisher. As the vote in my state was very close yesterday, I realize that the states Democrats are more divided than ever with the vote count coming in at only a 10% difference or so. I believe that come November should our state party still be this divided we will lose badly against Republicans who saw an unbelievable and overwhelming turnout in just the May 04 Primary alone.
Congratulations on a Wonderful Campaign Mrs. Brunner we expect you will continue the fight for real leadership in our state and in our country in the years ahead and you will always have us,the grassroots of America, will always support you in whatever future endeavors!!!
Thank You Corey A Baker
