Local news sucks so bad
There was a fucking tornado in KS last night that killed 4 people and the local news here in KC leads off with a story about a police standoff!

Good grief.

1. I just saw a picture of that tornado - it was half a mile wide.
It was a monster. Absolutely awful looking thing.

Shoot even Drudge has it leading the news.

2. In all fairness.....
The Tornado is over, was the police standoff still going on at the time of the broadcast? If it were still in progress maybe they felt they should warn people to stay away from that first.

I have my "issues" with our local news stations from time to time. There is a pro ball player here in Nashville who has been getting in all kinds of trouble. For a while THAT was the lead story every night.

Then I remembered why I never watch it anymore.

3. Won't the coverage of the standoff cut into the time they have
to show still photographs of people accused, but not convicted, of crimes. I need my half hour of shame and public humiliation!

4. I live in Los Angeles and the first 10 minutes of local news
Edited on Sat May-05-07 10:10 AM by LibDemAlways
last night was devoted to Paris Hilton - and then 5 more of a video showing David Hasselhof drunk. The only thing that would have been considered more important would have been a car chase somewhere within a 50 mile radius. For that they'll cancel the entire newscast and follow the chase by helicopter until it ends - either because the idiot runs out of gas or causes an accident.

How pitiful that in the "entertainment capital of the world" people are so starved for entertainment that a live car chase is a tv staple.

5. Well, up here, they go to the down part of a freeway overpass
every night and show us the reconstruction progress. It's like watching water drip.

6. They have to send a camera crew down to the site to
show the "progress"? That's funny.

If they showed daily "progress" on some of the freeway repair that's been going on here - for years and years - their already miniscule ratings would dwindle to nothing. Celebs and car chases are apparently all they've got to get somebody - anybody - to watch.

7. I lived in Santa Monica for a few years. Just about fell out of my chair
when the lead story one morning was the anchor's nose job. I was sober and everything.

lol

13. it's bad all over...
they catch a mom who apparently prostituted out her 12 yo daughter, they run names etc of 6 men who were nailed at the 'crackhouse' where the mom/kid lived, and you can almost hear the eagerness as the newmedia reporters go on and on... The media people, no matter how we diss them, are pretty well educated and experienced of life as any conglomeration of middle class people we know, so the question is: is something/'one' running interference with the ordinary transmission of information about what's going on, even at the local scene?
The answer is yes. Someone, in effect, is vandalising the 'news' because the entire thing we today see is a pack of cards- one expose could trigger chain reaction to bring it down. Go back to the crash of flight 587, on Nov11/01, 2 months after 911. Almost 300 people killed when a jet mysteriously blew up after leaving a ny airport. The disaster domminated the news, incidentally pushing the NORC results publication off the front page (hey, it buried everything else) BUT, it wasn't a terrorist act. THe newsmedia instantly reassured us that flight 587 was just an accident (the fear it was terrrorism was widespread, immediate, and such a panic would have destroyed the airlines stock value, so...) a nationwide campaign was underway by noon- flight 587 was a bad accident, nothing else. And it was local news who managed to 'correct' any fears that it might be a bomb etc (though early reports did say there were explosions seen before tail fell off)...the fact the NORC results, which prove that bush got less votes then Sen Gore in 2k election, never got any attention, was JUST icing on the cake, for bushinc and the gopigs...

15. Sweeps month around here consists of restaurant cleanliness investigations
I swear each of the three local news stations run these. Never mind the fact that our city council is busy catering to the real estate and development interests. Never once did they do an investigation into the beach privatization scheme (they wanted to close part of the beach to vehicle traffic at the behest of a resort developer- the people voted against this scheme so the developer took his toys and went home). Never did the tv stations (or the newspaper) do a story on the corruption inherent in the current makeup of the city council. The stories were always slanted in favor of development (or privatization of the beach in the guise of "safety"- which was bullshit).

16. Yes, but it beats the hell out of IQ2
I watch KC news and I live, well you know where I live, but they have this little ratwing mickey mouse tv station in stink town that I've got on permanent block they're so bad. Remember the Nightline where they displayed the names and photos of the dead soldiers, iq2 joined in the boycott, i sent them an email telling them off and trhe sons o bitches sent back a virus. Anyway I hear that when everything goes high def they'll be gone to which I say goodbye to bad rubbish.
