Anti-gay Iowa senator irate over proposed camping rules update
A vocal anti-gay marriage senator in Iowa is irate over a proposed change to the state’s camping rules. The proposed change would make same-sex couples eligible for the family camping in state parks.

“They’re citing the Supreme Court case and changing, you know, ‘husband and wife’ language to ’spouse,’ ” Sen. Merlin Bartz, a Republican, told Radio Iowa. “They’re changing their language even though the state legislature has not had a debate on this particular issue.”

Bartz said he wants to keep Iowa’s state agencies from extending spousal rights to same-sex couples. In state parks, the rates for camping don’t change for families and non-familes, but families are allowed to pitch more than one tent on a camp site.

11. I'm not dragging anyone into this.
I'm simply saying that every time we hear about these crazy homophobic nuts, it turns out that they're self-loathing gays. They're hypocrites of the highest order and they need to be exposed for what they are.

4. just curious so a state run state park can deny entrance to people
based on whether they declare their gayness or not? I mean, there ain't no way to prove gayness. All you can prove you're fucking a dude, at the moment you're doing it, which has more to do with mechanics than gayness.

Yeah, they smelled a lawsuit too, I guess.

8. I think they have to sleep in the same tent if they're not family.
Families are allowed to pitch more than one tent. Head scratching stuff there.

But Bartz admits he knows the Department of Natural Resources, which oversees state parks, could be sued if it does not change its language to be inclusive of the state-recognized married gay couples in Iowa.

15. So if they're not a family, they HAVE to sleep together; if they ARE a family, they don't have to.

Stupid rules are... stupid.

16. Yeah, he sees some mileage for some votes probably... Go after the gays, that'll get
you some votes and press. Hopefully one day the same tired old crap will fail miserably on them. I think a lot of people are just fucked tired of hearing these jerks whine and whine.

20. I'm always amazed at how torqued some get about whom other people sleep with, and
in no less than a tent. Some politicians really need to get a life.
