The 14 Most Charitable Celebrities
Edited on Fri May-07-10 06:00 PM by Are_grits_groceries
We always hear when celebrities do something bad, but it’s rare that we get a chance to celebrate famous folks doing something to make a difference. That’s why we’re taking a few minutes to celebrate some of the boldfaced names who donate their time and money to charity. No matter what other scandals these folks have been embroiled in, this is the one list where we give them a pass.

I don't know the % of their income that is donated, but at least they step up to the plate and try to make a difference.
I also know that Rosie donates a lot more money than just to The Katrina recovery. People don't know nearly all the groups she supports. I'm sure that there are more people like that too.

2. It isn't a liberal list per se.
It's a celebrity list of the biggest donors. That they are mostly liberals is telling.

3. Hollywood's a pretty liberal place.
A list of celebrities that did anything would be mostly liberal.

Good on all of 'em, though!

4. They left George off the list.
And Leo.

Clooney Donates $1 Million To Haiti

GEORGE CLOONEY will get his Haiti telethon started with a grand gesture - he plans to donate $1 million (£625,000) to the charities behind the TV special.

Clooney's Not on Our Watch charity has already handed over $1 million to the relief effort and now Clooney will hand over his own cash, according to reports.

Leonardo DiCaprio will also donate $1 million, according to Us Magazine.

5. How does Britney Spears fit in that list?
Every other celebrity gave at least $1 million to charities. All they list for Spears is $100,000. Maybe some of her other contributions amounted to the other $900,000 but it kind of stands out that her listed contribution is one tenth of any of the rest of the people mentioned.

6. Jolie and Pitt deserve kudos.
I've read more than one report seeing them on the streets of NOLA. Obviously, these people are rich and can live anywhere they want. But, they've invested a lot of money into the cities recovery and they seem to spend some of their daily lives there. I admire their efforts, a lot.
