Hospital staff give manicures eyebrow waxes in baby intensive care ward
Medical Staff Accused Of Running Salon In Baby ICU
Two county hospital workers were placed on paid leave after anonymous complaints that they set up a makeshift beauty salon in an intensive care ward for newborns, authorities said.

The two complaints said manicures and eyebrow waxes were given to nurses and doctors in the neonatal intensive care unit at county-run Olive View-UCLA Medical Center.

"The smell of acetone permeates the back area of the NICU," according to one complaint obtained by the Los Angeles Times and reported Thursday.

The same complaint alleged a doctor "had a French manicure right on the high-frequency ventilator."

The county Department of Health Services sent an investigator to the hospital on Tuesday and has placed two employees on paid leave while it investigates.

2. Acetone is nasty stuff, even for adults to breathe. But a high risk infant?
These people should lose their medical licenses.

3. I'll wait for the investigation
If there were no patients in the NICU at the time (something that does happen from time to time), then the problem wasn't quite as huge as it sounds. If there were patients in the NICU, they wouldn't have had time to get eyebrow waxes, let alone give them.

I worked with a nurse who got busted for things like washing her hair in a patient bathroom in an occupied room. What finally got rid of her was that she took a VNA job and left work one day with all her patient charts with her. That's right, she left the hospital and took the charts.

She'd been screwing one of the muckety mucks and that had saved her job. However, when four doctors couldn't find the charts to review and write orders, the shit finally hit the fan.

The rest of us were jubilant.
