It's an allusion to the despicably sexist mythologies that victimize young girls (and secondarily, young boys) in our culture ... the "Cinderella myth" that a woman can only succeed if rescued by a male ... and a PRINCE at that! As though there's something admirable and positive about monarchies! I regard it as abominable, as I've noted on DU many times. Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, and so on ... and I deliberately assume that any progressive on a progressive discussion board comprehends that. I find it interesting when someone doesn't.
