The Goose That Laid The Golden Egg.
Once upon a time their was a goose that laid golden eggs, otherwise known as the American economy. For decades the goose delivered the eggs and everyone prospered. It was very important to protect the goose from the greedy that would want more than the goose could produce, therefore there were regulations that protected the goose. This worked for decades until the American people started to forget the 1920’s, the last time the goose was killed. In the 1980's the powers to be decided to listen to the wizard Alan Greenspan who said that the goose could give more gold. Alan, in the name of his God, Ayn Rand, assured everyone that guarding the goose wasn’t necessary. He said that instead of regulating the amount of gold taken, we should let the smart business minds decide on the amount to be taken. After all, he said, they would never kill the goose because that would be against their own best interest. Many other economists cried out that it was essential to protect the goose, but their cries went unheard. Now the goose is severely wounded and Mr. Greenspan says that no one could have foreseen the disaster. Apparently Mr. Greenspan doesnt understand greed.

A little late but the American people woke up and voted for change. Time to heal the goose. Sadly, the change didn’t materialize. Instead of getting a new doctor to heal the goose, the new president kept the same doctors that harmed the goose. Apparently the new president is powerless against the cons.

Move your money out of stocks. You wont be able to out guess the cons.

2. Greed gets you rich so it must be good
Wall Street mentality. The only worthy people are those who are rich. Everyone else is a loser. Ergo, greed is more than good. It's a virtue.

4. I think the problem lies with low cost overseas manufacturing
Those suffering the most are the ones who had good jobs with good pay and benefits in the manufacturing sector. In order to compete with overseas $1/hour laborers, workers have been forced to concede benefits, pay and unions are constantly on the defensive. Wall St. and the bankers are just a distraction from the real problem - we don't make much of anything in this country any more. A service economy has nothing to fall back on when money stops moving around in circles. The real problem is systemic and goes way beyond the banking system. Trying to place all the blame on a few appointees misses the point completely and distracts from the real problem - 'free' trade (free being the cost of labor of competing nations.)

5. While I agree that we desparately need some "protectionism" to save American jobs, it is not
the most pressing problem. The wall street banksters are manipulating economies to the tune of many trillions of dollars. They have destroyed the economies of Iceland, Greece, Ireland, and now working on Spain. Getting jobs back is a slow process, but the banksters can tank the economy in a day.

6. I certainly agree that we need protections from those who would 'play' with our capitol

... to siphon off money based on greed. There is no question that this is bad for stability and we need much stronger regulations to prevent abuses that can upset the entire economy. Fixing that won't stop the system of recirculating money as a job, which does nothing for the average high-school educated worker who is looking for a job where an actual 'product' is produced. The entire system is fucked up and it starts with relying too heavily on being a service economy. Look at who is unemployed in this country - it's the people who should be making things. Unemployment for college graduates is less than 4%.
