Army extends stop-loss payments
Army extends stop-loss payments

The stop-loss pay program authorized by Congress last year has been extended through June 2011, insuring that eligible soldiers will be paid $500 for every month they are involuntarily retained beyond scheduled separation and retirement dates.

The Army also issued a statement April 27 to clarify who is eligible for retroactive stop-loss pay.

The Army began phasing out stop-loss in 2009, starting Aug. 1 with the Army Reserve, Sept. 1 for the National Guard and Jan. 1 for the active component.

Soldiers who were in theater on their component’s stop-loss expiration date, or who are assigned to units that deployed after that date, are eligible for the special pay, provided they have been involuntarily extended beyond their contracted separation date.

Stop-loss will end entirely in March 2011, when the active-component units that deployed in December 2009 return to home station and soldiers complete 90 days of stabilization.
