Biden (D-DE), Cantwell (D-WA), Smith (R-OR) and Kerry (D-MA) introduced
Introduced the “Petroleum Consumer Price Gouging Protection Act this past week.

This legislation that will literally outlaw gas price gouging, and guarantee fair prices at the pump.

This bill will now go to the Senate Commerce Committee for initial consideration.

Contact it's members to get this bill passed - probably concentrate on the repugs.

2. You might want to change your subject line
It'd get more attention if the subject said: "Petroleum Consumer Price Gouging Protection Act" - than just a list of politicians' names.

Just a suggestion. *shrug*

5. Biden. Perfectly fine with credit card company gouging
But he's on board with stopping the oil companies.

Not too hard to figure out which industry contributes more to his campaigns.

12. What a sham!

The problem with gas prices is NOT gouging! And it won't do a goddamned thing to bring prices down.

The reason prices are so high is because China and India are placing higher demand on the market, refineries are experiencing problems, and crude oil is sour and heavier as the sweet light runs out.

Tyring to blame high prices on gouging is an exercise in futility and will only end up backfiring when the true nature of supply vs. demand reveals itself.

13. And oil company profits don't exist?!
Sorry - I agree with what you said about supply and demand, but I also believe that corporations like Exxon/Mobil are out to make as much of a profit as possible.

I am glad Kucinich is looking into this on the House side, and that these 4 Senators are trying to do something in the Senate.

14. Any one who followed Enron knows that Oil Refineries are taken off line to increase profits...
It is the same game that Enron traders were playing....

And the largest corporate profits in history for a Quarter have been scooped up by the Oil Companies.

There is no market forces driving this price through the roof, regardless of the fact that India and China are competing on the open market.

However, a war on Iran will create even larger corporate profits for the oil companies.

15. That's it exactly
The oil companies are gaming the system by reducing supply via plant shutdowns, just like Enron did.

16. This is good and all...
...but when are they going to re-enstate the royalties that oil companies have to pay for drilling domestic oil? IIRC, that's a couple of billion dollars/year that we will need (pay-go) to pay for health care and other social programs that despirately need our attention.
