War on the Banksters
Next Showdown: K Street
4/30/10

It's Time To Take Back Our Democracy from Big Bank lobbyists!

As part of our annual conference in Washington DC, National People’s Action (NPA), and our allies at SEIU, the AFL-CIO, and Jobs With Justice are calling for a Showdown on K Street on May 17, 2010.

The big banks destroyed our economy and have hijacked our democracy. Corporate lobbyists representing the big banks paved the way to deregulate Wall Street and are now standing in the way of reforms that would protect people and strengthen our economy.

On May 17, everyday people from across the country will descend on K Street in Washington, DC. K Street is ground-zero for the corporate lobbyists that are driving gridlock in Washington. Our plan is to draw a direct line between Wall Street CEOS, their hired guns on K Street, and the elected officials who have become addicted to Big Bank campaign contributions.

It’s time to take back our democracy. Whether you care about banking reform, jobs and the rights of workers, quality and affordable housing and health care, or sustaining our planet, we share a common foe – greedy and reckless corporations that have taken control of democracy and are the big barrier standing between us and a more just and sustainable society. Join the Movement to Hold Banks Accountable!

1. The only reason war has been declared on the Banksters
is because the banksters declared war on everybody else.

I want to pull our CD's and checking account from BOA but, because it will involve a little paper work, etc. he's dragging his feet. We shall discuss this again tonight - then I'll just smack the shit outta him.

Our pitance will not bring about the collapse of BOA but, it sure as hell will make me feel a little better.

edit: typo

Good thing you said this about a husband, not a wife. One will get you cheers, the other endless scorn.

11. Same thing with one of my sons. There's a credit union right down
the street from him with all of the services, etc. Like talking to a rock sometimes. He'll tell me he dropped BOA just to get me off his back but he just doesn't want to deal with the paper work...sigh.

13. What about this Ally Bank that's been.......................
advertising on here? Are they any good? I would think that they must be at least a LITTLE different than other big banks just because they advertise on a progressive web site. Anybody know?

15. I read an article once that said financial problems were the number one reason for divorces...

Especially when you cannot agree on a course of action.

It is a very sad reality affecting my own marriage. :(

5. I would be there with you if I could.
Because that is where the problems are and they need to be told.

9. i am happy to no longer be a BOA customer.
will avoid them in the future. i think at the end of my recent loan, they were charging me 2 bucks a day interest. i never missed a payment on that loan. i could express my disgust with a lot of profanity, but i'd rather express it by never being a BOA customer again.

12. Thanks all for a delightful chat, and you marmar for keeping our mafia inspired banking system
in the spotlight. All to happy to recommend an assault on K Street, as it is long overdue.

As for the reluctant spouse mentioned up thread, there is more than vengeance to be gained by moving your money. Our shadowy monetary monitoring system is being shoved begrudgingly into the light, and it may not be tomorrow, or next month, but at some point, they'll shut everything down! The question becomes where you want whatever resource you consider yourself as having to be when it does. Many, many laws have been broken through the unholiest of alliances between Washington and Wall Street built to devastate the viability of a public out of sheer ugly greed. In the demand I make of my kids to trust me enough to be open, I'm quick to remind them: buddies and romantic interests will come and go, I'm the one who's always gonna have your back. I think to a certain extent, marriages can offer a similar dynamic. Consider the adamant nature of your partners position and ask yourself if anger at the banksters is really all that's in play or is there more of a desire to protect you from a malevolent machine designed to sponge you dry.

I expect hecklers and chicken little jabs now, but let me ask in advance of that, if the sky hasn't fallen then why are the affluent so destructively obsessed with making themselves a heaven here on earth?

Happy Day to the Momsies.
