Is There Any Info Regarding The Gulf Oil Gusher, Gulf Water Temperatures, And Hurricanes ???
Edited on Sun May-09-10 11:34 AM by WillyT
Will the oil spill absorb heat, reflect heat, will the amounts be negligible???

Just wondering if the oil spill has the potential to make any Hurricanes that enter the gulf more powerful, since Hurricanes get their strength from feeding off warm ocean waters.

Is there ANY science on this???

1. You need 80 degree water to have a Hurricane, there are temp maps all over the internet
But generally this time of year the water would not be hot enough yet. The oil slick won't do anything to heat the water either, in fact it might cool it a little bit.

5. Well... Hurricane Season Starts In Three Weeks...
I was just wondering if anybody has ever thought to do science on this possibility.

Temps will be getting there soon...

2. Evaporation fuels hurricanes...
and oil on the surface might impede evaporation. That's just a wild guess from a retired engineer.

Nit pick: it's not a SPILL, it's a LEAK.

4. Double nit pick
It's an underwater gusher.
My toilet leaks.
This damn thing has been described as an underwater volcano of oil.

6. Nit Pick:
If it was just a leak we could take care of it with Depends.

Its not a leak, its a gusher.
