So, it IS Kagan for SCOTUS
Edited on Sun May-09-10 10:24 PM by The Damned
Nominated by our President, for whom we all voted, for whom we shall vote again in thirty months.

I see no use in whining or complaining about this. Obama has chosen: Let's get behind him!

16. Me too - accept but tough to actively support....
A lot about Kagan and Obama makes me think of Clarence Thomas and Bush. Part of the club, no paper trail ...

... and while she and Thomas clearly have different ideologies, I don't like the similarities that lurk behind both of these nominations.

But maybe things will work out. Even the most conservative court in the history of the U.S. has been erring on the side of free speech, and that's a good thing (even through I'm a bit chilled by Citizens United).

On that note, readers who have a minute to kill might enjoy this short satire on United States v. Stevens - the "crush video" first amendment case:

2. I think the Republicans will squawk for a week or so and then things
will die down and Kagan will be confirmed.

3. Yep
Pretty much. I'd say the final vote will include Collins and Snowe.

5. Seven republicans voted for her last time....
SEVEN republicans

Seven Republicans voted to confirm her (Kagan) as solicitor general.

Coburn (OK), Collins (ME), Gregg (NH), Hatch (UT), Kyl (AZ), Lugar (IN), Snowe (ME).

Newly minted Democratic Sen. Arlen Specter voted against her.

15. She could easily be our Souter.
I'm not denying that. In fact, I said so, right here, last night. But hey, the die is cast, and I support the President.

What the fuck else can any of us do???

13. What I thought was hilarious (in the sense of irony impairment) was comparing Kagan to Earl Warren
I got (though don't agree with all) the substantive arguments- though in choosing Warren (rather than say, Brennan or Douglas) for comparison we have Eisenhower's classic statement:

"...biggest damn mistake I ever made!"

no Republicon-Lite "Purity Test". It doesn't even come with a ring.
