Really hoping it will split the right wing vote come election time.

(Rand) Paul TV ad blasts 'senior GOP leaders' for lying

FRANKFORT, KY - Republican Rand Paul, who's running for the U.S. Senate in Kentucky, is airing a TV ad attacking "senior GOP leaders" for lying to evangelical leader James Dobson.

Dobson, founder of Christian group Focus on the Family, had endorsed Kentucky Secretary of State Trey Grayson in the Senate race last week. Dobson called that endorsement "an embarrassing mistake" on Monday and instead threw his support behind Rand Paul.

Dobson: Rand Paul 'my kind of man' for Senate

An evangelical conservative activist has switched his endorsement in the Republican Kentucky Senate primary after discovering he was misled in making his initial decision.

Last week, Dr. James Dobson, a Christian psychologist and founder of Focus on the Family, announced he was supporting Trey Grayson in the Kentucky Republican Senate primary. But on Monday, the conservative activist issued a statement, retracting his endorsement of Grayson and coming out in support of Tea Party activist Rand Paul.

"Senior members of the GOP told me that Dr. Paul is pro-choice and that he opposes many conservative perspectives, so I endorsed his opponent," the family ministry founder explains. "But now I've received further information from OB GYNs in Kentucky whom I trust, and from interviewing the candidate himself. I now know that he is avidly pro-life, he believes life begins at conception, he opposes earmarking and supports Israel and identifies with the Tea Party movement, and believes in home schooling. (He) sounds like my kind of man." (Hear Dobson's entire statement on YouTube)

McConnell Endorses Trey Grayson over Rand Paul

The leader of the Senate Republicans, Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, is taking sides in the GOP primary for his state's junior Senate seat.

McConnell has officially endorsed Kentucky Secretary of State Trey Grayson over his GOP opponent Rand Paul, the son of libertarian Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas). The endorsement marks something of a last-ditch effort to boost the chances of the party establishment's pick before the May 18 primary.

"I rarely endorse in primaries, but these are critical times," McConnell says in an ad for Grayson. (...)

Polls show that Paul, a Tea Party favorite with the backing of former GOP vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, has a sound lead over Grayson. Paul also has the support of retiring Sen. Jim Bunning, whom Paul and Grayson are competing to replace.

The Grayson ad featuring McConnell notes that Grayson also has the backing of former Vice President Dick Cheney, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum and Kentucky Rep. Hal Rogers.

Grayson has called Paul's idea's "strange," chief among them his suggestion that terrorism may result from America's presence in other countries. Paul wants to eliminate the federal departments of Education, Energy and Commerce and has vowed to filibuster for a Constitutional balanced-budget amendment.
