arguing for a tax on soda and other non nutritional beverages with a representative from the American Beverage Association (Susan Neely).
A huge YES for taxing soda and other junk food!

happened to be on at breakfast (hotel). The circle (except Mika) all criticizing the tax... all studies, all reasearch shows the benefit of taxing junk food. This would be a small easy step to help make us a bit healthier.

8. I know exactly what you mean. I try each morning to watch some of it as it's |

a good time for me to watch something, but I always end up turning it off. Joe Scarborough often grates on my nerves and sometimes Mika seems pretty lame. Actually "local" Fox here in the same time slot does a pretty decent coverage and is not overly RW IMO.

5. Children learn what they live. |
|
If a child is in a "soda-pop household", they will drink it too. Off brands will always be there to undercut any tax increases ..
sweet is sweet, and kids just like sweet tasting stuff. It's built into the brain. It's up to the parents to teach them and to shop for them.
Until parents make a conscious decision to stop buying the sugar-juices & soda pop & candy & "treats", nothing will really change.
Modern-day food marketing has most people convinced that we ALWAYS deserve to be soothed & comforted by food, instead of nourished by it. Food is an EVENT...not just a daily need.
Special events used to be extra special because of the special uncommon foods that came along with them. but so many of those special foods are everyday foods now.

9. Just an involuntary reaction. Mika's hardwired to nag on junk food and obesity issues. |
|
Not that she's necessarily wrong. I'm just not giving her synapses more credit than they deserve.:-)
