The Meatless Monday Campaign.
I hadn't heard of this. What a good idea.

Meatless Mondays At Mario Batali's Restaurants

Mario Batali and Joe Bastianich are joining the Meatless Monday campaign!

On average, Americans consume 8 ounces of meat per day -- 45% more than the USDA recommends. Going meatless once a week can reduce your risk of chronic preventable conditions like cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes and obesity. It can also help limit your carbon footprint and save precious resources like fresh water and fossil fuel. Mario and Joe are just two of the big names in food that have decided to join the campaign; celebrities and leaders such as Michael Pollan, Al Gore, Sir Paul McCartney and Gwyneth Paltrow are backing the movement and the entire city of San Francisco just signed on to participate.

2. I have several meatless days a week.
I don't like meat all that much, unless shellfish and/or tuna is considered "meat" (it's not under Catholic food rules).

28. Thanks!
I didn't know we had a name. :)

I just called it "eating like Lent."

:hi:

Now... how do you pronounce that word? "Pes" as in "pest" or as in "pez"? Then, I assume, "ce" as in "si" and tarians.

18. I really don't understand the outcry from the meat industry....
Well, actually I do (it's about $$$$), but are they going to go broke if prople don't eat meat ONE day per week?

What I found most shocking is the thought that there are people who eat meat every day. I personally don't know anyone who does.

I know many disagree, but I don't think meat daily can be healthy (not to mention it sounds boooring)

Come visit here, and you will. I'll even buy you a Nathan's hot dog, if you'd like!

Most of the rest of the country does, they just don't usually post at or visit DU.

24. The first thing I'd do If I ever go to NYC is eat a hot dog, so thanks for the offer!
I'm not a vegetarian, but I don't eat meat every day, either.

I'm finding that as time goes by, I'm eating less and less meat.

27. SHOCKING??
You find it shocking that there are people that eat meat every day??

Almost everyone that I know has some form of meat everyday. We always have at least one meat\fish item at the dinner table.

I am shocked that anyone would be shocked that many people eat meat every day.

Anyway...there is NOTHING boring about a nice medium rare steak. I could eat that every day - assuming I could afford it..lol

26. We have meat three times a week, tops. It's expensive and a pain to cook.
Edited on Tue May-11-10 11:05 AM by Brickbat
And so yummy.

ETA: I buy high-quality meat, so it does cost more. But that way we get good meat a few times a week rather than crap meat every day.
