Teabagger to me: "Don't tell me Dems would do everything they could to defend our country!"
Had that disagreement today on my lunch hour with a random Freeper type at a fast food joint.

I won't go into too much detail about how the discussion started, suffice to say, when people say stupid shit in public, I tend to call them out on it.

So he basically said that he thought Democrats wouldn't do "everything possible" to defend America.

Alright, besides that statement simply being a roundhouse punch at the patriotism of Dems, it's also a pretty stupid sentiment. We're already spending more on "defense" than any other nation, and more than most of them combined.

So, what exactly are we "defending ourselves" from? Are we MORE secure and safe at home now then we were before 9/11? Obviously not, if we were ever all that safe. And spreading our forces thin fighting a voluntary colonial war (personally I think it's 2 colonial wars; but this nut would've just teed-off on me even more for calling Afghanistan that...) certainly leaves us more vulnerable.

Rationality just doesn't work on these creatures.

Oh, and btw, the cretin SAID he was a vet when I asked him, but he didn't freakin' even know what an MOS is!!!

2. His reply, "Because Clinton destroyed our military".
See what I mean? No rationality, just self-comforting lies.

3. Apparently we will not...
We have not put War Criminals in prison nor called out the tea Bagging Republicans for their unAmerican and Treasonous attitudes and actions..If we really wanted to DEFEND America we would make smoking illegal and confront the Right every time they open their mouth.

4. As Jon Stewart said recently...
at some point you just have to give up trying to reason with such morons and say, "Fuck it, you don't like democracy, get the hell out."

5. Because "everybody knows" Democrats are weak on defense.
Usually, when someone makes such an idiotic statement I ask them to explain their position. Then it is a simple matter to dismiss individual fallacies, and generally they back down and STFU.

8. You must not run into the lying, narcissistic screamers that I do, then.
None of them would even bother trying to clarify their positions, much less answers questions or listen to actual data.

6. They lie all the time about being veterans
I had a conversation with one who invaded one of our health care rallies last summer. He couldn't have been older than 30 and he claimed he was a Vietnam War veteran.

Yeah. Right. :eyes:

Usually here, though, the fake vets are just trying to panhandle.

7. few people would do ANYTHING to defend the US...
Tea-baggers included. They wouldn't increase taxes or back Obama if it'd defend America. They will only defend their agenda.

Every now and then a delusional RWingnut asshole likes to mouth off about who can be
depended on to defend this country and who can not. I use this to set them straight.

12. You should have told him this:
World War I --> Woodrow Wilson --> Democratic President

World War II --> FDR --> Democratic President

Korean War --> Harry Truman --> Democratic President

Vietnam War --> Lyndon Johnson --> Democratic President

Bosnia --> Bill Clinton --> Democratic President

Escalation in Afghanistan --> Barack Obama --> Democratic President

Ask him what he thinks about the majority of wars in the last 100+ years being conducted during Democratic presidencies.

13. Funny thing about that. Back when Reagan was in office...
I had a young woman tell me that she'd never vote for Democrats because "they get us into wars".

Talk about the psycho-talk double flip-flop! Such transparent idiocy also cooled my ardor for her considerably...

14. RWers like to think that we do not love our country and would not defend it.
They also like to believe liberals do not own guns or would not defend ourselves. They have strange ideas not founded in any fact - I read one post elsewhere in which a jerk stated that he was a veteran, so he HAD to be a republican...I really don't understand this at all.
I guess their ideas of "freedom" do not include freedom of ideas or of political choice or much of anything else, really-yet they will scream that WE are anti-American...???!!!

17. Tell him that Republican SecDef Robert Gates is the one recommending
slashing the US military budget.

Not that that has anything to do with defending the US, but the righties will try to claim that spending as much money as possible is integral to defending the US, and at the same time tell Democrats that they can't throw money at problems to fix them.

21. If the Republicans weren't so war like, we would not have to defend this country.
We make our own enemies by interfering in the internal affairs of other countries, then blame them for defending themselves.
