You know, all this time I had no idea that gays had to “practice”.

I have gay relatives, and they never once shared that with me. Imagine my surprise when “Americans for Truth” (interesting name) demanded to know whether Elena Kagan is a G-A-Y person… who practices!

And imagine my disdain for American Family Association (AFA) when they said this (h/t: Think Progress):

In a blog post for the far-right American Family Association (AFA) today, Bryan Fischer comes right out and says that the media should pointedly ask Kagan, “Are you a lesbian?” And if she is, according to AFA, she shouldn’t serve on the court:
It’s time we got over the myth that what a public servant does in his private life is of no consequence. We cannot afford to have another sexually abnormal individual in a position of important civic responsibility, especially when that individual could become one of nine votes in an out of control oligarchy that constantly usurps constitutional prerogatives to unethically and illegally legislate for 300 million Americans.

The stakes are too high. Social conservatives must rise up as one and say no lesbian is qualified to sit on the Supreme Court. Will they?

It did come up when she was just floated as a trial balloon, and all it led to was debates on our side as to whether or not it mattered that she was, or that if she was, that she was closeted. As I recall, the reich wing kept their silence during this time, or just simply questioned their own (i.e. Lindsey Graham) on the issue.

I do expect it to be what the neanderthals use to gin up their base in the coming confirmation battle, they seem to have ignored questions that surrounded David Souter when Bush the Elder appointed him years ago, so it will be interesting to see their gyrations around that bit of history.
