The big difference is Carter actually served. When the operation in the Iranian desert went snafu Carter was on the tube that morning taking responsibility. It took Reagan weeks to make a half-hearted admission to responsibility for the Beirut bombing.

60. Not just that, but this also. I was leaving the gym the other day
and struck up a conversation with a guy in an Army T shirt. Told him I was in the Navy for 28 years, retired in 1988. He said he graduated HS in '89, and retires next year.

So, I've been retired for someone else's whole career.

The citation my Battalion received, The Army Superior Unit Ribbon, read in part "Responding to three natural disasters simultaneously across ten time zones" That was Andrew Florida, Omar Guam and Iniki Hawaii.
