Sestak uses the Supreme Court announcement to his advantage

Sestak uses the Supreme Court announcement to his advantage
By Sean J. Miller - 05/10/10 07:07 PM ET

President Barack Obama might have handed Rep. Joe Sestak (D-Pa.) the issue he needs to win Pennsylvania’s Democratic Senate primary.

Sestak had been pulling ahead of Sen. Arlen Specter (D-Pa.) in recent polls, but Monday’s Supreme Court announcement might help put the congressman over the top.

The two-term congressman wasted no time in praising Elena Kagan’s nomination to the high court. And he also pointed out that the then-Republican Specter voted against her nomination as solicitor general when it came before the Senate Judiciary Committee last March.

“I expect Sen. Specter may backtrack from his earlier vote on Ms. Kagan this week in order to help himself in the upcoming primary election, but the people of Pennsylvania have no way of knowing where he will stand after May 18,” Sestak said.

3. Go Joe!
Send the creepy Specter back to the private sector. He will make a fine Walmart greeter.

4. I hope Sestak wins
But don't we constantly berate (and i think rightly so) the Blue Dog crowd for not toeing the line on important party votes? We want principle when they support our principles and we want a team player when they don't. Seems to me the Kagan thing is just politics and you know that's what you are getting with Specter in the first place. Of all the reasons to prefer Sestak this one seems pretty weak to me.

5. Mr. Sestak is very savvy. It is a lucky state that gets him.
