The Unfortunately Inevitable Follow-Up Photo Thread To My 'Drill Baby Drill' Photo Thread
Edited on Tue May-11-10 07:39 AM by Hissyspit
Due to the new images that are coming in of the devastation that BP, Halliburton and TransOcean executives have caused and Dick Cheney enabled in the Gulf of Mexico, it is now unfortunately necessary for me to update my original 'Drill Baby Drill' post and diary, even as those now prepare to try and cover their asses and shift blame in testimony to Congress today. These images help to keep in mind the reality, scope and details of the catastrophe as context for their testimony.

Images of the damage to bird and sea life are found toward the end of the essay. Do not scroll down if you don't want to see them. Caption material from MSNBC farther down deliniates the threat to the porpoise population.

“They have horribly underestimated the likelihood of a spill and therefore horribly underestimated the consequences of something going wrong,” said Robert G. Bea, a professor at the University of California, Berkeley, who studies offshore drilling. “So what we have now is some equivalent of a fire drill with paper towels and buckets for cleanup.”

A charred fire boom collects oil in the Gulf of Mexico, May 6, 2010. Oil booms are seen washed on to a beach as high winds and waves push the booms ashore on May 9, in Lafourche Parish, Louisiana. After a huge dome failed to cap the Gulf of Mexico oil leak, BP weighed Monday several options: a smaller "top hat" device that won't clog with ice, a "junk shot" to plug it with debris, or even a whole new valve. A pod of Bottle Nose dolphins swim off the research vessel Pelican in the oil spill area on May 6 in the Gulf of Mexico. Bottlenose dolphins are one of nine species of dolphin along the Gulf Coast. As many as 5,000 dolphins are in the Gulf area between the Mississippi and Louisiana coasts and the sunken oil rig, many giving birth right now. "It's very bad timing," says Dr. Moby Solangi, head of the nonprofit Institute for Marine Mammal Studies in Gulfport, Miss. "We're going to have a lot of babies here. We're looking at a colossal tragedy."

1. And yet, the Obama Administration is still going forward with offshore drilling.
Despite saying everything is on hold, I just read that 27 have been approved, 26 of those UNREGULATED!

Change we can believe in! :puke:

2. Where is the outrage?

There ought to be some fancy decorations on the lamp posts by now.

Expropriate without compensation.
