Wouldn't you expect a limited response from Palin and her ilk? I had much bigger expectations from Obama.

6. One can hardly blame Obama.
These energy policies were in place long before he came on the scene. But, the time is right, with a mountain of evidence to point to, that we need to head in a different direction.

38. They are DEAF to reason, it seems . . .
We have to overturn capitalism which is based in exploitation of nature --

Still you can hear so many officials saying, "we must have oil!"

We were warned 60 years ago of Global Warming and the threats of the chemical

soups we were making -- 60 years during which we've done nothing but compound

all of the insanities.

"Americans are really smart about really stupid things" --

A woman from the Bikini Islands said that after we had used her homeland for

testing nuclear weapons

11. Now that's a good protest.
I have no problem with that. It was indeed an awakening for Obama. First big mistake far as I'm concerned. It would have happened anyway, but by coming out in favor like he did, he gets to own it.

We really should stop fucking around in our coastlands. The only thing that justifies doing it is last resort. Drill or die. We can still buy the oil. Yeah we complain about the cost as though buying our own oil will be cheaper, but the fact is, that's a good price to pay to safeguard our coastlands.

He didn't cause it to happen, but he should never have given it credibility by coming out in support of it.

Contrary to what's been expressed here, I don't think Obama has his fingers in his ears going "la la la I can't hear you."
I think he sees and hears these people, and respects their opinions on this issue.

15. It is not American Oil, even if it's drilled in American Territory.
Edited on Tue May-11-10 08:02 PM by Althaia
Once it's pulled out of the earth, it becomes the property of multinational corporations, who will sell it wherever they will get the most profit from it. Our government gets a lease fee, but that's all we get. Heck, the oil corporations don't even pay income taxes. Where the oil is drilled has no effect on price and availability.

18. The gulf is being destroyed and will likely be completely destroyed by this
If our country decides to abandon offshore drilling, then some good will have come from it. It's an awfully expensive way to learn a valuable lesson.

Yes, Obama owns a small bit of the responsibility for this but there is so much to go around, between Salazar, BP, Halliburton, the jackasses who occupied the White House before and so many more, so I think he can handle his small part of responsibility. One thing I've noticed about Obama himself (not so much the administration, et al) is that he has no problem admitting when he has made a mistake and it in no way impacts his gravitas. In other words he doesn't act like a foolish sociopath pretending to be "a man" as Bush did.

16. Thank you for this ...Obama approved more drilling offshore when he
said he was against it in campaign...he's still for more drilling after this disaster...but Obama leaves it to his "advisers" therefore his hands are clean.

This is why we have to wake Obama Up! I'm sure the media didn't cover this..they don't. And the liberal media is but a shadow of itself now that we have a Dem in the WH. So...it's up to the PEOPLE!

Thanks Again!

20. Bit of bad luck that Obama triangulated when he did...
Otherwise, these signs would have pointed another direction.

There's a lesson to be learned in that: Dems who enable or embrace Republican policies end up smeared with the consequences.

Frankly, I have no sympathy for the administration here- as this was bound to happen with one pander or another.

42. Excellent point. I want so much to go on rightwing boards
and remind them of 'drill of baby, drill', but someone already tried that on one of the news sites' boards and were told to go 'look at the Democratic President in the WH' before pointing fingers elsewhere.

Obama and the other Dems who support offshore drilling look pretty stupid right now. But maybe they'll become more aware of the true costs now. If not, they're stupider than I thought.

32. Our President is for clean energy
He knew when he said that they could do "exploration" to find oil they would be granted leases after their reports on safety and drilling. To me it seems that this spill even though it has hurt and devastated human and animal and marine life, came in time to save the environment. Now the Secretary of the Interior has stopped all new leases and put a halt to exploration on U.S. off shore drilling permits. And now our President won't get too much feed back except from big oil. Who now blame each other for this gulf oil hot mess.Oh yea and they blame that concrete company (Halliburton). I wonder how they ended up doing business with big oil. think it has something to do with their former CEO Shooter (Dick Cheney).
