What We "Need to Know" About PBS After Moyers
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/marty-kaplan/what-we-need-to-know-abou_b_571306.html

Ever since the right began crying "liberal media," the challenge for the targets of those tantrums has been to figure out how to respond to the mewling. What PBS has done in the wake of Bill Moyers' retirement is a case study in the futile effort of trying to appease the little brat.

If you think that PBS, NPR, and the New York Times -- and maybe CBS, NBC and ABC -- are liberal mouthpieces; if you think that what Sarah Palin calls the "lamestream media" is biased against conservatives; if you think that FOX News really is "fair and balanced" - well, there's no way I can change your mind.

2. I had a bad feeling when I watched Moyer's last show and they announced this thing as
the replacement. Call me cynical but I don't exactly consider Newsweek hard hitting journalism.

3. The "liberal media" is part of the big lie
the RW peddles while they manipulate on-air information for themselves. As long as their followers continue to spread the "big lie" that the media is leftist, then they can slip in more venues of RW ownership in which the Hannitys, the Becks and the Limbaughs spread their crap without opposition.

The news has turned into a joke simply because of RW influence. All the media represents--if people aren't fooled--is the propaganda wing of the Republican party and nothing else.

The worst part of it is that there are some Dems who try to cater to these people instead of fighting back.

4. A relentless infiltration...decades-long and continuing
"Conservatives" have made progress in placing their operatives in just about every facet of information gathering/disseminating ...

They have even placed people in The Sierra Club.

Early in Bush-the-lesser's reign, I watched a hearing with PBS where the senate(or maybe it was the house) inquisition had a PBS woman literally in tears, as they berated her and that "librul" PBS. Removing funding from PBS is what's caused it to now have commercials and so many programs "sponsored by" EXXON-Mobil and so many other corporations.. Is it any wonder why there are so few programs on, that will challenge corporate greed?...and how the ones that do, are always under pressure?

Conservatives have a long-term plan in effect (it started soon after Watergate), and they will NEVER let up until they have a foothold everywhere.

5. It's looking like PBS has gone over to the dark side politically.
With both Moyers and the show "NOW" gone, I doubt I will watch this new show.

I refuse to listen to right wing propaganda even if it's supposedly "balanced". Spare me. :eyes:

8. I will, I was just looking and didn't find anything, yet.
Maybe he'll write a book, according to wiki he just traveled across the country talking to people about the economy. He's so good as an interviewer though I hope he keeps doing tv and radio.

How's Seattle? We had snow and ice on the ground here this morning. ?!?! :hi:

9. He is a great interviewer, but a book would be nice, too.
We had rain yesterday, then sun today and a sunny forecast for the week.

We didn't get a flake of snow down here this year.

:hi:

10. It's telling that they didn't hire Brancaccio for a new show isn't it?

I'd love to know where he ends up too.

11. I wish we could take back PBS (and NPR while we're at it).
The fact that PBS doesn't have a place for an existing, well-received program like NOW with David Brancaccio tells me it is fully captured.

12. it's quite a chain of events they can set off with just media ownership and one screeching Limbaugh
when a news exec is of a certain "persuasion," they'll cave to screeches that their network is librul; FOX viewers won't tune in to ABCNNBCBS, but will still scream that the "mainstream" networks are too left, encouraging further news moves to the right. meanwhile, ABCNNBCBS are increasingly exposed to con worldviews, distortions, and fabrications, helping move THAT audience to the right. GOP and Dems both end up with voter pools that are more fearful of the world, less compassionate, using warped reasoning, etc. this then strengthens the authoritarians and centrist Trojans in the Dems, making many liberals acquiesce to things they would've denounced if proposed by the GOP: John Yoo, the unitary executive, invasions and occupations, Menem-style cartes blanches. the loyalists will tell those who demur that their criticism and their votes for unapproved candidates will hand the country over to the Palinites (they will make this argument even after the Dems turn Palinite); ironically, the loyalists' frothing hysteria, vituperativeness, blindness to rampaging conservatism when perpetrated by Dems, and belief in the total goodness of anyone with a D after their name (including those they decried for decades when they were Republicans, like Specter and Tweety).

the same process works for "liberal" culture warriors, like those "New Atheists" who sound like Ann Coulter when it comes to those sneaky, infiltrating Mooslimes who want to impose sharia from Madras to Dublin!!!!!11111
