Will Kagan be the first Hispanic woman judge ob the Supreme Court?
No, for several reasons. First, while she is a woman, she is not Hispanic. Second, the honor of being the first Hispanic woman goes to Justice Sonia Sotomayor, who was elevated to the Supreme Court in 2009.

4. More importantly, positions like that are too consequential to use symbolically
Glass ceilings need to be broken, but that's not how we should fill such powerful positions.

(IN CASE anyone really doesn't get it, I'm not saying minorities make bad choices. I'm saying that issue should not come up at all during deliberations such as this.)

7. Will Kagan be the first man on the Supreme Court?
No, for several reasons. First, she is a woman, not a man. Second, the first man on the Supreme Court was John Jay in 1789.
