Poll question: Do you have a plan for when worse comes to Palin?
Let me first dismiss the starry-eyed optimists who think that the teabaggers aren't taking over, or that hate speak is backfiring, or losing its grip on the country. Bob Bennett is one of the most reactionary senators ever, and lost the GOP primary for being too liberal. JD Hayworth is mean, dumb, unqualified, and probably the next senator from AZ just because he's a right-wing hate radio psycho. We're going to lose numerous seats in both chambers to a party that is more right-wing than any in US history, and even the piddly little advances we've made in 16 months will be brought to a halt. The changes to the GOP platform that Hartmann read on the air today would make Francisco Franco blush. Sarah Palin will be living in the white house in Jan 2013.

My question is, what are you personally going to do?

Personally, I will have a chance in 2-3 years to work abroad, nominally in a temporary position. If the honest reclamation of democracy has begun by then, I will pass on the expatriation and stay and join the freedom fighters. OTOH, if there is no sign of life from the resistance, I will probably pack and attempt to make my temporary job permanent and live out my last 20 years in a more democratic setting.

What about you?

1. I agree not to underestimate her, but I also don't see her winning
She'd have to gain a LOT of non-teabagger voters because there simply are not that many of them.

5. Things would have to be completely miserable in this country
for the GOP to get another go, and I don't see that happening in 2012, not even if the PIIGS collapse and we have to nationalize the banks to save them and unemployment is well into the double digits.

I sure don't see that snowbilly having enough star power alone to get her elected to much of anything, given her history. I honestly thing that the PTB in the GOP would have her whacked to prevent it should it threaten to occur.

Still, I have the means to leave, just pack a couple of suitcases, put the cat in a carrier with her immunization papers, and take off.

11. yeah I'd be out of here faster than a taco bell burrito
And no harm in being prepared, I just don't see it unless she single-handedly were to catch OBL with her bare hands. And even then, I don't think it would happen. She scares a lot of the conservatives I know, although sadly not enough of them.

Is that not "Repukes getting another go"? And, if that can happen, why not president Stupid?

Translation, any issue that may be pressing to others, but I don't give a fuck about. Obama is God and he must not be questioned!

Any questions?

EDIT: Ridiculous? Bullshit? Just because you haven't the intellect to see it, doesn't mean a reason is non-existent

7. Watch the GOP implode
Wait two years for Democratic majorities in Congress. Palin is a lame duck

Wait two more years for a Democratic president.

You are talking about incompetent idiots who views are way outside the mainstream for Americans. They will be their own undoing

13. While I will not deny
that the tea partiers are making inroads, the simple fact is, Caribou Barbie's disappointed them mightily with her endorsement of Carly Fiorina, who is the antithesis of everything the tea partiers stand for.

Only if Carly loses the Rethug nomination, and Moosehunter supports the nominee to the point of defeating Boxer will the reich wing forgive her for this.

14. Combination of a few of your answers
I don't think Palin can win but a Palin clone? Maybe...

If that happens then I plan to stay and fight in a more Greek\French manner until it's no longer safe to do so. The hard part is figuring out when that is. I mean would I have been smart enough to leave Germany in 1935? I can't say that I know I would.

As to where I'd go, well that depends. If I have the money probably Eastern Europe. I understand it's fairly easy to get a work permit in Moldova and they're trying to join the EU. Maybe I could grandfather myself into the rest of Europe with them. If I have less resources probably South. Canada would be slammed with American refugees if it goes bad enough for me to flee so South might be better, more room get lost in while I try to get back up on my feet. I'd be one of many Americans fleeing to the rest of the Americas.

I really doubt it's going to happen but I must admit, I do think about it sometimes.

19. Many of you are missing the point of the post
So let's say Stupid doesn't get to be president. But we get Repuke majorities in the house and senate next year, and some other equally right-wing nut job in 2012/13? If it comes to Speaker Boner and Majority Leader Frogface, and Huckabee/Romney/Gingrinch/whoever in the WH, I'm still out of here unless there enough on our side to make it a fight.

23. J,J,J
The only way they win back power is if they steal a lot of votes.

First, they wouldn't steal elections. Well, not anymore, they wouldn't.

Second, just because they have to tools to do it, doesn't mean they will use those computerized vote counters. Well, not again, anyway, right?

Relax, there's nothing to worry about. It's in the bag.

This kind of thing is my least favorite thing on DU. If I had a dime for all of the "If so and and so is elected, I'm out of here" threads, I would be living in a nicer house.

22. If you think she's ever going to be President then you are seriously paranoid.
First of all, Palin doesn't WANT to be President. She wants to be famous, make money, say horrible and incendiary things and have absolutely no responsibilities.

Second, even if she won the primaries, she'd never beat Obama in the general. Her polling numbers even in her own state are dismal, and it's doubtful she could even carry ten states on election night. It would be the easiest reelection campaign a President has run since James Monroe for Barack Obama.
