9 Indicted on Charges of Accessing Obama's Student Loan Records

Associated Press

Nine people have been indicated in federal court on charges they accessed President Obama's student loan records while they were employed for a Department of Education contractor in Iowa.

Nine people have been indicated in federal court on charges they accessed President Obama's student loan records while they were employed for a Department of Education contractor in Iowa.

The U.S. attorney's office says a grand jury returned the indictments Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Davenport.

The nine individuals are charged with exceeding authorized computer access.

They are accused of gaining access to a computer at a Coralville, Iowa, office where they worked between July 2007 and March 2009, and accessing Obama's student loan records while he was either a candidate for president, president-elect or president.

Arraignments are scheduled for May 24.

The charge is punishable by up to one year in prison and a fine of up to $100,000.

1. Hmmm, that potential sentence sounds like a lot less than the guy who hacked Palin's email
was supposed to potentially get (don't know what that sentence actually came to or if it's even been given yet).

Anyone else find that interesting?

3. Other than sheer stupidity, what in the world were they hoping
to find? So he had student loans. He already talked about payin them off so having them is no new info. My guess is curosity, but it surprises me that there were 9 peopkle involved. Must have been the whole office prank of the day!

5. They could have been hoping to peddle the info for Rovian dirty tricks, is what I think
Other than that, several years ago there were some clerks at UCLA's medical center who got fired for cruising around the files of celebrity patients. In that case, it seemed to have been a case of nosy curiosity, but it was also a gross breach of confidentiality. Next time it could have been someone looking for material to use for blackmail or to sell to gossip magazines.

No matter what these 9 former employees were up to with Obama's files, they breached privacy laws. Firing was appropriate; the rest I guess depends on what else the authorities know about their behavior and intentions.

Anyone who works on computers really should be made aware that their very keystrokes can be tracked.

8. They were hoping to find a Birfer holy grail
They were hoping to find records that Obama applied for student aid in college as a foreign student from Indonesia.

This stems back to an April Fools joke from last year that the Birfers, to this day, think was a true story.

Here's a simple fact. There have been tons of jokes pulled on the Birfers. Fake birth certificate, phony videos, joke stories planted, Obama joking that his middle name is really Steve. The Birfers believe every last one of them is absolute truth because it fits their twisted world view.

7. The Freepers think these people will get the Birfer holy grail
of discovery.

How much you want to bet that all 9 are Birfers?

How much you want to bet what they found out made them decide the conspircay runs deeper than they thought because they didn;t find what they thought they'd find?
