“We have a particular appreciation for satire and humor.”--About DU, LLC
At times when the rancor quotient is high enough to move Skinner to post, it's worth remembering the value placed on humor here.

Humor is one more thing that draws us together. We enjoy a shared appreciation of our wit, and our cleverness--and we can be so deliciously good at it!

When the level of civility deteriorates to the point that some may feel an urge to bail, we have, in humor, one last refuge here.

In discussion, I'm not impressed at all when someone comes at me with rudeness and snark. But if you come at me more gently, with humor, then we can talk.

How can we not be impressed that DU's founders had the wisdom not only to value humor, but to consider it significant enough to be worth an explicit mention on this site?

I intended to elaborate further, but, at the moment, I'm preoccupied with an old song that keeps running through my head. It's something called, "I get a kick out of you."

1. Funny thought on that post.

Years of humor and kind thought, decades actually. And you know what people said, if you do not show power and show you can hurt someone they wont listen.

Years of humor and good will, years.

And they thought they were immune.

Well guess what, if some thing or effect is in place now, that is not just fun and humorous, it is because some people asked for it, they literally said that if something had power it would kick there ass.

Note that I do not know about those actual things and stay in the good moods of humor, but if someone gets their ass kicked after years of asking for it to be proven, well they asked for it, and it is only giving what they wanted.

On a personal note, without knowledge of who the OP talks to. I can say, if someone asked me to change how I think or post, then they have to have earned that, and if not, f*ck um. No offense to the poster but that request if not earned by action, is ridiculous.

I post that because people think they deserve some respect of something, heh, most people have not earned that, and what they have earned is much worse then they think.

To answer your question, the OP is directed to all. As Rod Serling used to say, "For your consideration."

3. Kind reply, thanks for not taking my post as meaning you.

But to be honest, people that ask for respect that have not earned it, are making a power play.

They are basically saying they will not do something or think on something if you do not act a certain way. heh, that is a claim for some power, and I don't play that, because that is giving some power to someone that has not earned it by action or arguement, so I not do that for that reason.

Bring it on, is my reply to that, if people earn respect they get it. I do not worry about if someone hurts their own feelings by the repercussions of their actions. I do try to be nice, but by saying you have to be a certain way, is just a power play. Earn it.

I do like many people, but if I have said something that is not an arguement, and if that arguement is not countered, how is that wrong? Only if a person claims power without being able to back it up with a good arguement, and I am not seeing good arguements from many sectors that want respect.

What have I said that is not accurate, and if not accurate why is it not countered, and if it is accurate and can not be argued against, why is it not spoken of?

I will say I read many good things, but that does not modify the effects. Either the news is not true, or things are still messed up, and the arguements to fix things have not been countered, so why have they earned respect?

There are some that claim they can be a certain way because they get away with it, well that does not mean they will not be called out for it.

Again not you, just a broad comment on the concept.

Playing a couple videos, to blow off steam, for those lost, wake up, you do not have to lie, feel and be alive, isn't that what we all should do.

Eversence - Bring Me To Life

Metallica - Enter Sandman.

Say your prayers little one
Dont forget, my son
To include everyone
Tuck you in, warm within
keep you free from sin
till the sandman he comes
sleep with one eye open
gripping your pillow tight

CHORUS
Exit, light
Enter, Night
Take my hand
we're off to never-never land

Somethings wrong, shut the light
heavy thoughts tonight
And they aren't of snow white
dreams of war, dreams of liars
dreams of dragon's fire
and of things that will bite
sleep with one eye open
gripping your pillow tight

CHORUS

SOLO

Now I lay me down to sleep (x2)
I pray the lord my soul to keep (x2)
If i die before i wake (x2)
I pray the lord my soul to take (x2)

hush little baby, don't say a word
never mind that noise you heard
it's just the beasts under your bed
in your closet, in your head

8. Again, no offense taken
I think the best approach is to begin by considering everyone as deserving of respect. If an individual demonstrates that that respect is not deserved, fine.

At the same time, I'm reluctant to write someone off for what may be an isolated transgression. You and I have lived long enough to understand that we ALL screw up, from time to time.

Perhaps the issues of "power" and "respect" have a special resonance for you because of a personal experience. If so, I believe we both understand that there are appropriate places to take our personal "issues". Unfortunately, I'm not qualified to help you there. But--sincerely--I wish you the best of luck.

7. Some of us haven't been here that long
I realized that there would be a "preaching to the choir" element to my post--for some.

From what I've seen of you here, it's obvious that you have a good sense of humor. Please take my post, from someone who is not so experienced here, as an appreciation.
