Talk about wastefulness...
When we order dental implant parts, such as the abutment (the post which fits into the implant already placed into the jaw), they are shipped Fed-Ex in a gigantic box into which you could pack, say 8 paperbacks. The abutment is packed in a glassine envelope or tube no larger than the length of half a pack of gum. There is no appeal from this shipping method for most companies and if it didn't cost 25-30 dollars for the shipping, it would be amusing. But it's not. It adds to the cost to the patient and is unbelievably wasteful. The companies claim that this is the only way that the part can be tracked b/c they are expensive, but every time I get the package, which is almost every other day, I think to myself..."There's a pony in here somewhere."
