State budget woes grow deeper as rosy projections come up short

Washington hasn't come to the rescue. Hopes for a tax windfall were dashed last month.

As the reality of a $20 billion deficit sets in, California leaders are bracing for another summer of difficult state budget talks.

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger will kick off serious budget discussions Friday with his May budget revision. The governor is likely to propose reductions in everything from social services to schools to state worker compensation.

"What you can expect generally is no taxes and terrible cuts, absolutely terrible cuts," said Schwarzenegger press secretary Aaron McLear. "We're not going to get through the deficit we have without some really tough decisions and some really terrible cuts." ..........(more)

3. Gee, we had plenty of money before Schwarzenegger and Bush. Wonder what happened

to it all.

Some of it went into extremely expensive and egregiously non-transparent new vote counting systems in California and everywhere else. Some of it went directly into Bushwhack/Puke political coffers, via Bush "pioneers" Ken Lay and Wally O'Dell. Some of it went to send our National Guard over to Iraq. Some of it--a lot of it--'disappeared' in Iraq. Some of it went to make Halliburton, Blackwater, Exxon Mobil and others very, very profitable. Some of it went into somebody's pockets to prevent the government requiring BP from installing backup failsafes. Quite a lot of of it went right into the pockets of banksters and to help make the four hundred wealthiest families in the U.S. even wealthier. And all of it, we can be sure, went to the "have's" of various stripe.

And now there is nothing for the "have not"'s--the rest of us. Odd how the government is crying poor, with all this money having vanished into a black hole. $10 billion--California's entire government surplus--into nowhereland. Entire iconic American companies--into another universe. The Clinton prosperity--vanished. And they say the Pukes are making a comeback--may take Congress, may even oust Obama. The same Pukes who stole everything in sight and deliberately created Great Depression II (not to mention their other crimes).

Wonder why they are saying that.

It doesn't make sense. Something very, very wrong here--with the press corps, with the voting machines, with the whole system.

Edited to add this: (It doesn't make sense.)
