Meek demands Crist reveal position on Kagan

Meek demands Crist reveal position on Kagan

Now this could get interesting: I'm told that Dem Senate candidate Kendrick Meek is about to call on Charlie Crist to reveal whether he'd vote to confirm Elena Kagan to the Supreme Court.

Crist, intriguingly, has not said anything substantial about Kagan since her nomination was announced some 72 hours ago. Meek immediately released a statement strongly supporting the choice; Marco Rubio has come out and said he's got serious concerns about her.

Crist came out against Sonia Sotomayor back when he was still a Republican. But he's now running as an independent, meaning he needs some Dem votes to prevail. So Meek is about to send out a statement demanding Crist reveal where he stands on Kagan:

"Governor Crist and Speaker Rubio stood together to oppose Justice Sonia Sotomayor. Will they stand together again opposing Solicitor General Elena Kagan's nomination?"

This could put Crist in an awkward spot. Now that he's an indy, conventional wisdom holds that he needs to win both Dems and Repubicans, in addition to independents, to prevail. If he comes out against Kagan, it gives Meek an issue against Crist in their battle over Dem votes. If he comes out for Kagan, it could cost him Republicans to Rubio.

2. Since she will be confirmed before either one gets into office
That sounds a little desperate.

5. Yes, that is the question everyone wants to know.
But if that would cost Crist any Rethugs at all then he would never say it. Then again, does he have any Rethugs left voting for him?

6. It may be Meek is worried about Crist's answer.
but regardless he should try to force the issue. Voters should know.

7. Before the hearings? That's bullshit.
Would Meek make up his mind entirely before she has answered all the questions? If so, that's quite bothersome.

8. I Forgot The Source
But I read where the White House would like to tacitly pull the plug on the Meek campaign as they realize he can't win but can take away enough votes from Crist to elect Rubio.

Ironic...

10. Hypothetical and academic if Crist is sworn in January, 2011.
I would HOPE that the hearings and the vote would be concluded by then. But then again . . .
