The symbols tell the true story well. Just think of the enforcement budgets and private prison incomes that would suffer from a sudden end to this atrocious, life-destroying "war". Of course, then there are all the black and illicit budgets that would go dry, as well, globally. It would be a sort of Great Drug Depression, IMHO. This "war" is its own incentive to be continued!

The amount of money being made is stupendously enormous. In fact, the two largest industries on this planet right now in dollar amounts are weapons and drugs and nothing else compares. What does that tell you?

So, if an alien race were to observe us and note our largest expenditures and what we traffic, I think that would be an extremely sad and ignoble indictment towards our leaders, power brokers and financial institutions. Notice I didn't say against our species, though we are all complicit in some way by commission and omission.
