Teacher caught on camera beating student while classmates cheer
http://www.examiner.com/x-38158-Cultural-Oddities-Examiner~y2010m5d13-Houston-teacher-caught-on-camera-beating-student-classmates-cheer-VIDEO

saw this on tv news today. What was she thinking?

A Houston charter school teacher has been fired and now faces assault charges after a cell phone camera captured her beating a 13-year-old boy.

School officials say the female teacher beat the boy because he was laughing at a video of a mentally challenged person.

Video footage (below) shows School House Jamie Charter School teacher, Sherri Davis, corner, throw, kick and punch the boy as he attempted to cover himself from the beating. Some students cheered while others were audibly distraught.

Janique Johnson, the student who recorded the video, said Davis “snapped."

" just started beating him up,” Johnson said. “His behavior may have been wrong, but did not deserve that."

The incident occurred last month.

1. The victim made fun of a mentally disabled student.
I've seen a lot of DUers claim they'd do the same thing as the teacher in that situation.

2. As wrong as the child is for laughing, the teacher is a thousand times more so.
Teachers shouldn't lay a hand on a child, much less beat them, entirely inappropriate and dangerous.

8. I can think of many ways to verbally punish a boy who would mock the mentally disabled
When you lose your temper, the debate is lost.

That kid got beat down and she lost her job. He's learned What??

I don't care how many DUers or anybody would beat down a kid, it's not just abusive, it's stupid.

6. I disagree that the classmates were cheering.
I heard a lot of outrage and fear, and I also heard laughing, but that kind of weird, nervous, disbelieving laughter that people who are faced with something unimaginable sometimes come up with. I didn't watch the whole thing, though, so maybe later on they were cheering.

7. There were other teachers who stood by and watched, too.
They could be seen at the very end of the video.

The teacher has been fired and charged with assault, both of which she deserved.

14. The teacher is a pathological thug, plain and simple. She must
be incarcerated in a mental health facility for some serious therapy. nt
