In protest of Arizona immigrant law, Pitbull cancels show
<snip>

"Miami rapper Pitbull is taking a stand for immigrants.

Known as Mr. 305, Pitbull announced Thursday he is canceling his May 31 concert in Arizona "in protest" of the state's new controversial immigration law that makes it a crime to be undocumented.

"I am canceling my concert in Phoenix on May 31. How is the country we enjoy and love bcuz of its human rights, freedom, opportunity -- and that has been built by immigrants -- now start 2 deny them? It is contradicting 2 everything the USA stands 4," Pitbull wrote on his Facebook page and then sent out on Twitter from Taiwan.

"Pitbull joins other top artists, politicians, community leaders and citizens in expressing their disapproval of the new law," his representatives said later in a prepared statement.

Pitbull, whose parents are Cuban exiles, is currently on his Mr. Worldwide's Carnaval Tour and is performing in Tapei on Friday."

5. Gloria Estefan Protests Against Arizona Immigration Laws
<snip>

"Gloria Estefan and her husband, producer and musician Emilio Estefan Jr., took part in the demonstration, Boycott Arizona, in downtown Los Angeles this afternoon (May 2). The demonstration was meant to speak out against the new Arizona immigration laws and demand that President Barack Obama’s administration overhaul the country’s immigration laws.

"We came as refugees to this country that gave us many opportunities," said the 52-year-old Cuban-born singer. "We join with you today so that they will know that we immigrants are honest, workers, to show the beautiful face that we bring to this country, always respecting the laws. If everyone looks back, everyone is an immigrant in this country. We don’t want to link the word ‘immigrant’ with ‘criminal.’"

She later added: "We’re good people. We’ve given a lot to this country. This country has given a lot to us."

Cypress Hill Scrap Arizona Gig To Protest Immigration Law

"Rap veterans CYPRESS HILL have cancelled an upcoming concert in Arizona in protest of a new state immigration law.

Arizona lawmakers recently passed the SB1070 immigration bill, allowing officials to detain anyone they suspect to be an illegal alien.

The new ruling has infuriated a string of stars including Black Eyed Peas frontman will.i.am, and Cypress Hill have pledged their support to immigrants by scrapping their planned gig in Tucson on 21 May (10).

Explaining the move in a statement, the California-based Latin group says, “This decision was made in an effort to show support and solidarity with those, undocumented and otherwise, being directly affected by this unconstitutional law. Cypress Hill recognizes those living in the struggle for their basic civil rights.”

7. What do you think about the law?
I just moved from Az three months ago, but if I was still there I would definitely be supporting these boycotts.

9. I can see both sides,
but lean toward being against it.

I do indeed think that there will be racial profiling.
