Recently, Glenn Beck has claimed to be outraged that a new Arizona immigration law that requires people to carry proof of citizenship is being compared to Nazi Germany. Comedy Central's Lewis Black is even more outraged, since he believes Beck is a hypocrite.
Last month on his Fox News show, Beck attacked opponents of the controversial Arizona law for using such imagery: "You're out of your mind. Are you comparing the systematic, cold-blood extermination of millions of Jews to America making sure that people are here legally? Arizona sure is putting the "az" in Nazi, aren't they?"
"Glenn Beck is offended!" announced Black Tuesday night. "Glenn Beck thinks playing the Nazi card is going too far. Glenn Beck. this is a guy who uses more Swastika props and video of the Nuremberg rallies than the History Channel."
Beck once compared concerns about global warming to Nazi Germany's persecution of Jews. "That was Hitler's plan-- his enemy: the Jew. Al Gore's enemy, the U.N.'s enemy: global warming," Beck said on his radio program April 30, 2007.
"I'm not accusing Al Gore of being a Nazi or anything like that," Beck later claimed.
"Yes, you are! You just did it!" exclaimed Lewis Black.
Black went on to recall numerous examples of Beck using Nazi imagery. "It's six degrees of Kevin Bacon, except there's just one degree, and Kevin Bacon is Hitler," joked Black. "It works for anything."
On the National Endowment for the Arts, Beck once said, "Advocating through art is known as propaganda. You should look up the name Goebbels."
On teaching kids about climate change, Beck once said, "Some may believe we're on the road to the Hitler youth."
Speaking about ACORN, Beck remarked, "These are the Brownshirts."
"It's what happened in the national socialist country of Germany in the 1930s under Hitler," Beck said of the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP).
And regarding the Peace Corps, Beck commented, "This is what Hitler did with the S.S."
