I have two words for Arlen Specter: |
|
1. Anita 2. Hill
Lemme tell you that we Pennsylvania Progressives still, to this day, talk about the 'thrashing' he gave Anita Hill at Strom Thurmond's request. I for one shall not forgive or forget who gave us "Justice" Thomas and I have waited many years to cast a primary vote agaisnt this man, although I have voted in the G.E. against him many times.
I am sick and tired of the MSM talking about the Teabagger movement as being the motive base of the Republican Party, but never a mention of we liberals as the base of the Democratic Party. Well, folks, the time has come to end the Specter tenure and we will (most likely) be voting for Sestak, who, BTW, CAN WIN in PA if anyone decides that they want to campaign for him. Otherwise, they'll just be throwing away an opportunity to give this man a chance to represent a gigantic state in a very important time.

It was the Anita Hill 'thing' that REALLY pissed people off....

Fuck Arlen Specter.

Not a Sestak fan. Met him a few times. Everytime came away unimpressed. Will take me a while to forgive Joe Biden for meddling into our state's political affairs.
We could have had Josh Shapiro.
Sestak wins, it will be entertaining at least watching his family deal with the state democratic party, and listening to the state democratic party peeps I know endlessly bitch about it.

7. I know what you mean... |
|
but look at the crop of candidates we seem to always field here...you know better than I, but wotta bunch of know-nothings for the most part. And then, even if they have a ghost of a chance, the 'powers who be' let them hang out in the breeze, don't work for them, and then say "he/she was a bad candidate."

Vapid, self-serving, and know-it-alls. Then when it doesn't go their way, they have marvelous excuses and the time-honored tradition of pretending that they knew it would happen a priori, and how it's helpful that we lost.
One guy in particular was sure Harkin was going to be the nominee, and when Clinton got it, he was 'sure to lose'...when he won, this guy was Bill's BFF and was with him from the start...

|
Sestak will be a little bit different, because the entire establishment lined up against him. He's going to have a hell of a time getting them to behave.
Here is the thing about the establishment, they aren't that much of a help, but when they are pissy they are a hell of a hinderance.

11. Face it. He's the only one who can beat Toomey and we DO NOT need another Santorum!!! |
|
We sent Santorum back home to Virginia and they can have him. Toomey is no better, but probably not worse. Sestak doesn't stand a chance against the Rove slime machine behind Toomey. Specter still has most of his long-time supporters because he's always been a moderate. All changing parties did was remove him from any possible association with the FOX teabagger takeover of the GOP. He hasn't changed his views. He served PA well as a Republican and will continue to do so as a Democrat. Sestak wouldn't be any worse for PA, but I doubt he would be any better. They really don't differ on the issues very much.
It really comes down to two things: 1) Who can defeat Toomey (Specter) 2) Who will have the most clout for PA (Specter)
Shit's shit, and that's that.

.. I'm SOOOOOOO behind the current anti-incumbent fever. The only way congress is going to change is for those ASSHOLES to realize that their jobs are not guaranteed and that in some circumstances no amount of campaign bribery cash will save them.
At that point in time some will realize that working for the people is more advantageous than working for campaign cash.

20. Oh that's complete b.s. |
|
Specter has no room to grow in his favorables, Sestak has been catching up to Toomey and still has lots of undecideds to pick up. Toomey has higher unfavorables than Sestak does. Specter has way higher unfavorables than either of them, and there aren't many of those people going to change their minds.
I don't know why any democrat would want to put Specter back in unless they are part of the machine that's placed its bet with him and is afraid of losing their jobs if Sestak becomes Senator.
But ya know if they weren't all sucking on Specter's limp and shriveled you-know-what they could have gotten behind a really good candidate and Toomey would already been getting his ass kicked. It's just going to be a little more difficult now. But Sestak will still get it done.

Arlen should be packing up. (And of course, about time.)
So unless the election machinery is not going to play this thing ethically, I don't think Arlen has a chance.

what he did is forever etched in my mind. So is the picture of Anita Hill, young and courageous, at a time when this was a BFD.
He is a nasty, self serving, unreliable, not very smart OLD MAN.
He needs to be retired without further ado. Or, if ado is needed, let me take care of it.
