7 Tajikistan Children Paralyzed by Polio, WHO Reveals
As has been revealed by the World Health Organization, it is now getting ready to send a team of experts to Tajikistan in order to look into a possible polio outbreak in the region.

----

The agency, therefore, on Friday shared that it was the first ever outbreak of the diseases which leads to paralysis across Europe since the WHO certified the region as polio free back in 2002.

1. Poverty, lack of medical care and a weak
Government are a better incubator for communicable disease than anything I have in the lab.

Diseases that are as easily and cheaply prevented as Polio should not be a concern anywhere in the world. The fact that we haven't been able to wipe this thing off the face of the Earth reflects badly on us as a species.

3. Good point!
"Poverty, lack of medical care and a weak government are a better incubator for communicable disease than anything I have in the lab."

That sounds a lot like the way the country I live in is going. ;)

2. I have a client who doesn't vaccinate his kids....
he is a chiropractor and doesn't believe in it.

Imagine what it must be like to live in a place where your children may be paralyzed for life because they haven't been vaccinated.

4. In Nigeria,
Some radical Muslim clerics and other traditional medicine men are preventing children there from being vaccinated. They think the polio vaccine will kill Africans, or that it will make children sexually promiscuous.

5. When I lived in NJ kids couldn't go to school until they were vaccinated.
That included the polio cubes they took. Papers had to be shown before admittance..

14. That would be so scary to me. Even with the shots my kids got, when
they had the measels and pox they were really sick. Wonder about the kids with no shots. I could never take that chance.

15. vaccines prevent very few diseases. hygiene has done more to kill outbreaks than anything
so why would you pump anybody full of crap they don't need?

Polio is on the lower right. The arrow points out where the vaccine was introduced.

Vaccines are sometime useful against Influenza.

17. Gee, that spike in polio during the late forties and early fifties looks so small on a graph....
unless your child was one of the children put in an iron lung of leg braces. If it was on such a steep decline why didn't it stay on course? And how do we know where it would be without vaccine?
