Biden: Arlen Specter is the Democratic candidate!
PHILADELPHIA — Vice President Joe Biden on Friday defended U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter's Democratic credentials against a primary rival's criticism that the former Republican only switched parties to save his job.

"Arlen is the Democratic candidate," Biden told KDKA radio in Pittsburgh. "Now I grant it, there's a primary, but this is the guy the Democratic Party got behind early on."

====

And for those who weren't around, a little blast from the past as Arlen Specter "impeaches" Anita Hill. Biden is of course the Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee seen in the video:

1. "but this is the guy the Democratic Party got behind early on."
Admission it is rigged.

Just like the party in CO had it rigged for Salazar, and look where we are now.

I hope Pennsylvania smells this rat, and turns him out!

3. I remember it well. It was embarrassing for PA that Specter was our Senator at the time.

His questioning of Anita Hill was infuriating then, and it's just as despicable now.

4. I guess Biden is doing this because it was all part of the deal
when Specter switched parties. But really why does the Obama Administration want to support Specter with a chance of alienating Sestak voters.

6. Arlen Specter, as a counsel on the Warren Commission, originated the "Magic Bullet" theory
that said a single bullet, zig-zagging all over the place, caused numerous wounds in Kennedy and Connolly in just 6 seconds from a single rifle fired by a "lone gunman" even though the bullet allegedly recovered came out in pristine condition, which is scientifically impossible.

Zapruder film unquestionably shows Kennedy getting shot from the front (grassy knoll) in addition to the back. The House Select Committee on Assassinations examined evidence showing that possibly THREE assassins were involved.

Some of Kneedy's worst enemies were on the Warren Commission, like Allen Dulles.

I'd make my own choice and Specter wouldn't be it.

12. Note how this happens...
It's called Arlen calling in favors.

And it's how legislation gets passed these days.

I imagine this public endorsement from Biden is part of the price for Specter voting for things like health care reform, Wall Street reform and such.

Not that I would vote for Specter either if I was in Pennsylvania...

I can't vote in this election (live in NJ) but I'm doing GOTV work in PA for Sestak that day. I think 80 is a good age to retire Arlen.

14. Specter was useful
He really was. He voted for the stimulus (which helped stop the job losses and turn the economy around) and health reform. There are probably other votes where his 60th vote for cloture allowed important bills to pass.

But at the end of the day, he is a republican trying to save his job. And 538 showed most of his voting is just a response to his election prospects. When he was a republican and Toomey was running a GOP primary, Specter voted with Obama barely 13% of the time. When he was a dem being primaried by Sestak, he voted with Obama 80%+ of the time. So once the pressure is off in 2011, he is going to go back to being a republican.

16. Stay the fuck out of the primaries, Joe.
Same goes for your boss, the DLC/D(L)NC/D(L)SCC, etc.

Let the voters of that state decide. It's not like things aren't bad enough already in PA, where Rendell, Casey, and Sestak (let alone Magic Bullshit Specter) pass for "Democrats".

21. wondering if Biden/Obama know their support in a primary may have the opposite effect

no better way to undermine Specter than to submerge him in love in a primary where Democrats are supposed to be making up their own minds before outside forces get engaged

35. Are you denying that this happened?
Or did it happen a long time ago and is just now being dragged out, or something?

If neither of those are true, Biden is being divisive... not the poster.
