Highland Park team skips Arizona, plans Florida trip

The Highland Park varsity girls basketball team is trying to get as far from the Arizona immigration controversy as possible.

The girls and head coach Jolie Bechtel are now planning a team trip to compete in a Florida tournament in December during their school's winter break.

“The thing for us is we all just want to have fun and play in a holiday tournament,” said team member Morgan Bartelstein, a Highland Park High School sophomore. “We're looking forward to getting all of this behind us and just play basketball.”

Bartelstein said she and her fellow teammates are trying to stay out of the political spotlight.

“The main thing we are talking about as a team, is that we consider each other part of a family, whether some girls have political views one way or another,” she said. “We are trying to stick to that and support each other.

“That's the goal for the 15 of us.”

4. Yeah well we're not much better.. the legislature here is probably 1/2 step better
wants to drill for oil in state waters, introduces a dozen gay bashing bills every session.. they'll copy AZ's bill next chance they get...

Tell them to go to Hawaii or Oregon or some place not run by the yahoos.

7. What is tragic is this is not getting any press. . .
. . .which in a way is good, however there is this who perception that the girls are not being allowed to play.
