I had a 2 hour wait at a hospital today, so screw FOX
I found myself sitting in a hospital waiting room this afternoon for two hours. I could have left but I would have had to come back and I did have a book with me, so I sat down and began the wait. I could not get interested in the book because a hanging TV has these mindless idiots babbling bullshit; it was tuned to FOX. I put up with it for about 3 minutes, then got up, walked over, reached up, and punched the buttons until Cspan came up. Then I turned up the volume and returned to my seat. There were a few other people in the room, no one said a word. My god, you'd be amazed how much the wait improved.

3. Comedy Central not available?
With so much bad news these days, I'd have chosen something more relaxing. The best medicine and all...

5. I used to do the same at the work out club
I've stopped doing business with companies who refuse to stop showing Fux exclusively on their TVs (well, at least where I can - it's not always possible, though I DO complain.)

6. When I wait for my doctor's appointment
I always ask to wait in the inner area so I don't have to listen to FOX. And I always tell them why. And they always let me.

7. You are lucky you were able to change the channle
around here, there is no way to change the channel.. I even asked a receptionist once and was told, "the tv's are all pre-set and even we cannot change them" :(

the tv's don't even have any controls showing..and not a remote in sight..most are even mounted high on the wall, so people cannot touch them.

8. I didn't think I'd be able to and was much surprised to see the channel thingies work
But I just had to try.

You know what surprised me? Nobody so much as looked up when I did it.

30. Just yank the plug from the outlet
and cut the plug with a pair of scissors - stolen or borrowed from the receptionist's desk, tell the doctor that you are cancelling your appointment because the TV's preset and you're not able to change the channel, so you're expressing you're opinion. Leave the plug with the receptionist.

10. Good for you!
I do that at the gym where I workout. Fox was on three channels when I got there today. It was on NO channels when I left.

14. It's never on the gym floor, but sometime in the locker room. If no one is standing there
obviously watching it I immediately go and change the channel to PBS. If someone is there, I usually make a loud comment like "This is a place to get healthy, not be bombarded with lies and hate from Fox News."

15. I do that too
If its on in the locker room, I change it to MSNBC - just to REALLY make the rightwingers mad. It's kind of weird knowing that I'm working out with rightwingers. But I live in the reddest of red states - Oklahoma - and these people are right wing crazy. I'm in the minority for sure.

11. Why is it that ever hospital and Dr.'s office in the South has Fox News on???
I even went to an employment office in the Medical College of Georgia where the TV was set on Fox News in the waiting room with a large sign over the control pad that said "DO NOT CHANGE THE CHANNEL!"

Sooo weird!

21. Not just doctors offices and gyms, but also department stores and restaurants!
One Sam's Club near us, until recently, had Faux on every day...on every wide screen TV in the store. And there were dozens of them. Wal-Marts, Targets, Best-Buys, Sears...anywhere they sold TVs, would have the propaganda channel on more often than anything else. Same thing with any restaurant with a TV...Faux Noise uber alles. No one prefers CNN? ESPN? MTV? Animal Planet?

THIS is why the populace is so woefully ignorant, and vote Republican like obedient robots. :patriot:

24. I'm convinced they pay many of those places to show their channel...
...maybe even pay for the TV and hookup.

I also wonder what part of their ratings are due to this involuntary audience. The more eyeballs that see their screens, the more money they can charge for ads.

13. The way it works at our gym is that the first one there gets to "control" the remote
for the TV. There are two TVs in the cardio area and the custom is to keep them tuned to the same channel so there is no crosstalk. The convention is put on something like Ellen, Travel Channel, ESPN, Rachael Ray, Regis in the morning or something non-political nor depressing like CNN, MSNBC, Fox.

This one old guy is a rightwing Fox "news" watcher and grabs the remote and puts on Fox and increases the volume. Some younger women chewed him out last week (they said that Fox "news" is phony and political and is not in keeping with our choices in the gym, that it was too biased). He argued for awhile and after seeing about 8 people look at him like he was an asshole, he relented. Now he stays away from the remote.

16. Were you at Ruby?
I live about 5 minutes from Ruby, and I know exactly what you mean about the TVs being tuned to Fox all the time. We always go into the little walled-off "kid room" if we have LyricKid with us, because cartoons are a FAR better way to pass the time than to be forced to listen to Fox.

25. Ahhh. I thought you meant the ER waiting room.
The worst of all of them, though, is the 5th floor critical care waiting area. It's always overcrowded, the bathroom is disgusting, and if you're in 5th floor waiting, you're NEVER there for anything but a terrible reason. The desk attendants are very nice, though.

Since you live so close, you should stop by the house sometime. We'll have lots of fresh, home-grown produce by late July, so if you don't have your own garden, we can send you home with some of our extras. In fact, I have a bunch of extra assorted veggie seedlings here that I have to either give away or throw away--I planted a ton, and for some reason, they ALL actually came up, so I have waaaay more than I need right now. :hi:

20. It was a 3-hour wait our last time at the hospital, 2 weeks ago
Edited on Fri May-14-10 06:59 PM by Wednesdays
kid had slammed into a pole at school. Checked in the hospital at 3 PM, doctor examined at 6 PM...

During our wait, there were some cretins railing about how much they hate MSNBC because of Keith and Rachel. And, one of them was telling the others how their health benefits have been reduced "because of Obama." :banghead: Guess they don't mind the 3 hour wait, courtesy of for-profit medicine.
