A recent thread demonstrated something I've seen here as long as I've been here. Many people do not read an OP's thread. After not reading the thread, they often make comments that have nothing to do with the content of that thread.
Can we not, at the very least, take a minute to read what an OP has written in the thread before posting? It seems to me that that's the very least we can do, out of respect for the person who took the time to write the thread. If you don't have time to read the thread, then why bother to post in that thread? It just doesn't make any sense...

1. I don't know why everyone hates Olive Garden so much. |
|
Sure, it's not authentic, but the food is still pretty tasty.

What were you saying?
Kidding. Joke.
It's frustrating to me when people challenge an OP who posts a link to an article, and the person making the challenge CLEARLY didn't read the article. I can cut them some slack if it's some magnum opus but when it's a simple wire service piece, there's no excuse for it.

Sometimes you can see intent with patterns, and from the tone of the title.
Most of the time I read the posts, I just see different things in them.
Although I do agree it does seem off topic to some, it is just a different context sometimes requiring seeing many posts in sequence.
Also, there are some people that like to post without directly saying something. There are ways to reply to someone with minor correlations, so sometimes what seems like one thing is something else. It is a form of code system some things use. I think that is secrecy so don't use it, but do see it, but many people know that they make comments about one thing, meaning another, I would ask why not say what they mean clearly?
Note that I express my thoughts on topics. Although do know it is sometimes different then topic in OP.
Side note, somethings have to many levels to explain in text. So not talking about that in this post.

27. In that particular thread, I'm not sure that is the whole problem. |
|
What I notice is that because most people are of the same general economic class and have the same sort of life experience, it just doesn't sink in when something is different.
i.e..... for most people, "DMV" automatically means license. It becomes a stretch to understand that so many don't drive, and use it to get a state I.D.
This holds true for a lot of other things.... I have seen it myself that if it doesn't fit into the "normal" experience, people skip over a lot.

My post was probably off the mark...
not because I didn't read the thread...
More likely because I'm not the sharpest tack.
I try to learn.
I'll go back to being quiet. Not posting. Because I might say something stupid again.

34. An OP often invites quick responses by a question in the subject line |
|
or how it is worded.
Would it be that every new thread was worthy of respect, but, alas, there are those that are not.
Your OP is a nice thought, but human nature being what it is it is beating the air.

37. I once made my stand on a subject very clear in the OP |
|
And had to spend the rest of the thread correcting people about my opinion because they accused me of the opposite of what I said I stood for.
There's a lot of that. It seems too many feel the need to challenge based on their misreading everything. Then they refuse to shut up or back down.
