Conservative friends rise in support of Kagan
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Conservative lawyers and academics are voicing support for Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan, praise that could soften criticism from the right and provide cover for any Republican senators inclined to vote for her nomination.

The essence of their take on Kagan, the former Harvard Law School dean who now serves as solicitor general, is that she clearly has the smarts to be a justice and has shown an ability to work with all sides on thorny issues.

"She has had a remarkable and truly unusual record of reaching out across ideological divides," said Michael McConnell, a former federal appeals court judge who was nominated by President George W. Bush.

Longtime Kagan friend Miguel Estrada, whose appeals court nomination by Bush was blocked by Senate Democrats, said, "She's clearly qualified for the court and should be confirmed. Obviously, she's a left-of-center academic who never would have been picked by a Republican. But no one can doubt her intellectual accomplishments."

1. Like that shouldn't be a huge red flag to the rest of us
Which of couse it is.

I'm so sick of the compromisers, the enablers. Because to the right wing, compromise only goes in one direction, and we know that very well.

4. So, if her nomination is somehow magically withdrawn
do you actually believe you would get someone you approve of more?

You are right that Republicans do not ken the concept of compromise, but Democrats knew they were scorpion when they let them on their backs to cross the river.

7. My guess would be that you would like Kagan's replacement far less than her
and be more disappointed. But it's academic since Kagan will be confirmed.

5. So, when will we get someone
in any position of power who doesn't feel obliged to 'see all sides of an issue' especially when the issue has a right side and a wrong side, like torture eg?

Not surprising. This is how Obama is, he tries to please everyone except those he thinks he doesn't need to worry about, and because he really doesn't like Liberals. She's a perfect fit for his way of thinking.

And that's bad for teh country. At this time in our history, with the SC leaning more and more to the right, it badly needed a balance. And that was why I thought we were supporting Democrats!

8. As God likes to say "I would that you were hot or cold, but because you are lukewarm...
I will spew you out of my mouth."

There's some wisdom in that sentiment. God was not big on compromise.
