Colin Powell for Sec of Ed? He turned it down. |
|
http://politicalwire.com/archives/2010/05/14/powell_was_offered_cabinet_position.htmlPowell Was Offered Cabinet Position Ben Smith notes another interesting tidbit from Jonathan Alter's The Promise: President Obama offered Colin Powell the job of secretary of education and gave it to Arne Duncan only after Powell turned him down.

3. The SOB helped Bush lie us into this war and Obama wanted to make him Secretary of Education? |
|
He should have had Holder looking for reasons to prosecute Powell - or offering the lying sack of shit immunity if he'd give testimony against Cheney & Bush.
But Obama wanted to reward him.

4. It's all politics. They were wanting to repay him for his support... |
|
...it's just a shame - and telling - that this administration would hold the Secretary of Education position in such low esteem, that they would offer it to this lackey.

7. That may be, but he knew they were lies when |
|
he went before the UN and sold the war to them. For that I could NEVER forgive him. He shares the guilt for the deaths of over 1.4 million human beings. He could have walked away and maybe that would have stopped the war. But even if it didn't, it would have made it much harder for them and at least he would have done the right thing.
Others walked away, like the Ambassador to Greece because he could not support that war. HE was a Republican with integrity. Powell thought more of his career than the lives he was condemning to death.
Colin Powell also helped cover up the Mai Lai massacre.
I am horrified that Obama would offer him that job. What does he know about Education? He's been a military man, a war supporter, all his life. Sometimes I really, really wonder about people who call themselves 'democrats'. They sure have short memories. He should have been indicted, not rewarded, for his role in that illegal war and for the deliberate lies he told the world before the UN on that unforgetable day.

8. Powell betrayed our troops out of loyalty to Bush. But Obama fans cheered him at the Inaugural. nt |
