America faces a situation wherein the essential social structures that once bonded a nation together are coming apart at the seams.

The most recent example: Danica McKellar, who played young Winnie Cooper on The Wonder Years, has now stripped down to her skivvies for Maxim magazine.

So, I'm objecting to a woman who used to portray a cute little girl stripping down for all to see? No. What I am objecting to is the fact that Danica McKellar is a MATHEMATICIAN! She's had books published! And yet, and yet, when it all comes down to the creek, even a smart, well-educated woman--a SCIENTIST, for fuck's sake--feels the need to dive into the noisome pit of T&A!

At the same time, we've girls who still are girls (tweens, I do believe they're called) being actively encouraged to be as "hot," "sexy," and yes, as "SLUTTY" as possible! My pining for a time when "dating" didn't automatically mean "fucking" evinces not some Tea Party template for "getting my country back." Hey, we all know that those "Golden" years weren't really all that golden if you were black, yellow, red, non-Christian, an abused boy, a molested girl, or a woman of ANY background! Rather, I am merely expressing a desire for an era which I--and some of you, as well--once knew, a time when one actually was not inundated with gratuitous titilation and meaningless "news" every time one turned on the tube, or opened a mainstream magazine, or listened to the latest Top 40 hit.

We are as Rome. And we are dying. All that the guys like bin Laden are doing is providing the same service as did the Visigoths.

Only one nation can destroy America, and we're doing a helluva job!

Danica wants to go down to her underwear for a magazine? Good for her. She's a grown woman, and she doesn't need you to give her permission to display herself if she so wishes.

You say you're not pining for the "golden age" but you ARE hearkening back to a mythical utopian past, back when everything was exactly how you wish it actually were now. You even compare us to rome, which is a sure sign of delusional Golden-Ageism.

Here's some facts... Teenagers have always been fucking. even young teenagers. The only difference today is, they're not crucified for doing so. At all points in history, news has been inane and geared towards titilation. Idiocy in the printing industry and vapidity in the music industry has always been a hallmark of both industries.

Get yourself a rocking chair and enjoy your newfound days of screeching at kids to get off your lawn.

3. Danica McKellar is a grown-ass woman.

She's completely capable (with her considerable intellect I would imagine rather MORE capable than most, in fact) of making the decision to appear in a cheesecake spread without it being chalked up to invidious social pressures.

Ms. McKellar is hot, she KNOWS she's hot, and she enjoys showing her hotness off -- why on Earth does that bother you? It's not like she's doing this pictorial out of desperation to pay for baby formula or something. She's having fun with what she has, and is raising awareness of her new book promoting the idea that young girls should consider themselves just as capable as young boys when it comes to math.

And I hate to shock you, but even over two decades ago when I was a kid dating was pretty much synonymous with fucking, if you knew what you were doing. NEWSFLASH: People like to fuck! Most of the women I've dated have been willing to have sex on the first date, and they were emotionally-stable, intellectually-fulfilled, financially secure women with solid self-esteem. They just like sex.
