Obama ignores me.
Obama literally acts as if he is President of the United States. It's really starting to grind my gears. He's been doing this "I think I'm the President" act ever since the January before last. What is up with that?

I realize that, with the exception of myself, all people have big egos. They shouldn't, but they do. I "get" ego, believe it or not. I can easily relate to someone thinking their own feelings and thoughts are more important than anyone else's. I know people like that.

But my problem with Obama is really not his ego. My problem with him is that he doesn't do what I will him to do. I can't tell you how many times I have felt a certain way about something. Then I'll check the news for a few days and find that Obama isn't doing anything about it at all. I've tried everything, from voting on CNN polls to thinking positive thoughts to posting on DU. Nothing works. (And, yes, I have used exclamation points, emoticons, and ALL CAPS.)

Every day is a nightmare. I'll be driving, say, and I'll notice that I get more red lights than anyone should have to put up with. Literally too many red lights. Or I'll go to get coffee and find that there isn't any. Sometimes, there will be coffee, but it will be the wrong roast. It's endless.

Even the higher profile environmental issues go nowhere with Obama and the Dems. It is my understanding that the universe may actually be "winding down" to eventual heat death due to the Second Law of Thermodynamics. This has been known for over 100 years. WHERE ARE OBAMA AND THE DEMOCRATS?!?! Why are we not repealing this law right now? I am starting to see what people mean when they say that the Democrats and Republicans are really just one party in the pocket of Big Physics.

I voted for hope and change. I voted for principle. And look where it got me! I'm still in a dying universe with bad coffee.

Next election, I swear I will only vote for the candidate who is with me on all of my deeply held principles. I am writing myself in for every office. No compromises!

10. passive-aggressive attack on millions of people
This is clearly designed to malign and discredit any and all critics and dissenters, and to encourage people to ignore them or to join in on suppressive gang attacks on them.

You are invoking all of the false smears - that critics are impatient, that critics are self-centered, that they are unrealistic, that they are helping the Republicans.

This is pure poison, and if it continues to infect the discussion it will be highly destructive to the fortunes of the party, not to mention the well-being of the working people and the3 future of the country.

Under the guise of defending the administration and the party, this will destroy both.

32. The humor comes from the perception that some people will blame
Obama for anything and everything. In fact, some are on a constant quest to find and share even the most dubious tales of the administration's treachery, incompetence, or malice--and are the first to shit on a thread containing anything positive about the President--because he obviously can't do ANYTHING right if he's ever done anything wrong.

69. the error there
You assume that I am taking myself seriously - too seriously. Perhaps you assume that politics is all about personal feelings - the OP does, apparently.

I take the subject matter very seriously. Myself, not at all.

Jokes by those siding with power aimed at dissenters or those excluded from power are the ugliest and most mean-spirited sort of humor there is.

And I can't support overturning it. On the plus side, it's a very good bet that the universal heat death will happen long after our sun dies. Further, I'd be careful before suggesting Democrats try to overturn a law of nature, because there are some people who want to overturn the law of evolution.

In fact, they still insist this scientific law is only a theory.

be the way Democrats try to bully people into voting for their rightwing policies. Whoever thought this 'strategy' up needs to get a new one. This is likely to drive even more people away.

Seriously, they should at least TRY to pretend they represent the people who elected them.

Unred'd in the hope that those who are trying to get support for Democrats abandon these kinds of childish tactics, for everyone's sake.

51. You are not responsible for what he does.
You are only responsible for what you do, and expressing what you think is right. So do not worry about people not doing what you think is best. And they may be doing many good things, and some bad.

If you really did make someone do something you would be stealing free will, in the same way, it seems things almost need to be able to be seen in many ways, or else how would anyone be known for what they are.

My point is argue and stand for what you believe, but don't let it get you down, if someone thinks different or does different, that is part of choice, and to think differently on that, thinking you should be able to make someone do something, is perilously close to stealing free will, and should be avoided.

So march, sing, stand, volunteer, support, and speak for what you believe, but don't let someone elses choice of actions feel you are not making a difference.

Also many news reports are not accurate, that can be proven by the fact some contradict each other. So it is not always easy to know what is getting done, and what is not. However a person is responsible for their own actions and thoughts, and expressing what they think. They are not responsible to make someone do something.

The purpose of participating in political discourse is to make the people who control things do what you want them to do.

64. It's posts like this that ought to remind us how and why the US came to be in such a sorry state
and why Republicans win- even when they've lost and are ostensibly out of power, still inordinately influence- and even outright win, policy fight after policy fight.

I urge everyone to consider the sentiments and tone of the post and think long and hard about why Republicans- once on the verge of being relegated back to the fringe for a generation, are now poised to take back the House.

And- in the larger sense, why the United States is a nation in decline- with the majority of its people headed slowly but inexorably toward third world status.

92. Actually, I just started a thread about that
The American Empire is coming to an end. We do like our circular firing squad, don't we?

93. Probably not a bad thing for humanity
Depending on what fills the void.

Hopefully it isn't barbarism.

And I'm sure you loved it.

74. Your not helping your cause...your sarcasm gets lost...funny satire but if you expected
a pat on the back for your brilliant satire meant to attack some that are upset with the President you wasted your time..

As do you, I find the anti president Obama threads baseless and tiresome along with counter productive but unlike you I can appreciate the reality that for some being ignored is NOT whining...

I am not sure how you would like it if you were continued to be viewed as a second class citizen unworthy of having the same rights as perhaps your neighbor does, I am not so sure you would like the fact that your made to witness your personal rights of privacy regarding your own body being questionable or outright illegal should you decide to personally desire a medical procedure...

I am not so sure that if you found yourself in prison for something someone in the political arena likewise is guilty of yet is walking free as a bird you would be so inclined to write satire about that experience..

I hope you get my point, for some it is nothing more than an attempt to destroy the dem party regardless of who is in office, but for the other half, the outrage and anguish is real and your satire is unworthy of their upset with regards to being ignored which if you ask me, some have been and I for one find it not only sad but outright illegal and am honestly surprised that this illegality has not been shouted by the very person who has the ability to be heard...

Peace....

75. Obama didn't "ignore" me.
Edited on Sun May-16-10 11:25 PM by walldude
He heard me when I asked for Guantanamo to be closed.

He heard me when I asked for an end to useless illegal wars.

He heard me when I asked that DADT be repealed.

He heard me when I asked that my GLBT brethren receive equal rights.

He heard me when I asked that we not give tax money to ultra wealthy criminals.

He heard me when I asked that we stop drilling offshore.

He heard me when I asked that we invest in new alternative renewable energy instead of Nuclear power.

He heard me when I asked him not to violate the constitution.

He heard me when I asked that he follow his timetable on pulling out of Iraq.

He heard me when I asked for a public option.

He heard me when I asked him... Then he told me to go fuck myself.

So in return I make sure to remind Obama supporters how outraged they would have been had Bush violated the basic tenants of freedom, not to mention the Constitution by creating a CIA Death Squad to kill American citizens without a trial, without the right to face their accusers. Without the right to be judged by a jury of their peers, on the word of the government alone. This is not some small violation here, this is not some "slippery slope" this is the end of freedom. I believe the quote is "So this is how democracy ends... with thunderous applause".

That was A-1 capital funny stuff. My favorites bits:

"Every day is a nightmare." (Damn, is that not the DU mantra or what??)

"WHERE ARE OBAMA AND THE DEMOCRATS?!?! Why are we not repealing this law right now?"

"I voted for hope and change. I voted for principle. And look where it got me! I'm still in a dying universe with bad coffee.

Classic. :)

88. My favorite thing to do right now
Edited on Tue May-18-10 03:19 AM by AllentownJake
Is watch the Joe Sestak supporters defend the President even though he sent his OFA organizers into PA on behalf of Specter. Literally watching people bend and twist and try to justify the reality of who Barack Obama is and what he believes, with their minds is an exercise in sheer human fallacy of not looking at reality, and I enjoy poking and prodding it and watching the angry reaction.

Really, it cracks me up more than anything else. One I know from the campaign was a huge Sestak supporter and is in a Specter office right now, making calls for volunteers for Arlen.

The bending you people do, cracks me up more than anything else. I can see why you embrace a man with no principles masked as pragmatism, a huge amount of his following appear to be people who are as morally devoid as he is.

Specter came out against the escalation, Joe didn't. Arlen won my vote there. Whether it was politically motivated doesn't matter. I reward that position with votes. See I can tell you why I'm voting in 2 in a half hours the way I'm voting. Very simple exercise on my part.
